Docie?

It's a Greek girl's name. I believe it's pronounced like "doh-see". I'm leaning towards this name a bit more than the others on our list, so wanted to know everyone's opinion on it. The middle name will be Catherine.

Other names in our list are:

Mallory
Madeleine
Rowan
Quinn

Mallory is lovely.

@happylittlechick

How do you know no-one in the U.K. has ever been called this?

I should have said registered in England and Wales.
You can check the ons which charts every name and how many babies were registered with a name each year. No results for docie.

I think baby name stats do not list a name if under three uses of it to ensure individuals are not identified so there could be a couple of Docie's a year
Firebird83 · 17/11/2020 23:46

Rowan is much nicer

Ellmau · 17/11/2020 18:55

Rowan is fab.

Pudding01 · 17/11/2020 18:45

Sorry to be negative, but even in your original post you said you "believe it's pronounced".. It's just not a good name. If you really like it, maybe a middle name...

Prefer Darcy/Darcie x

Enough4me · 17/11/2020 15:44

Dulcie or Josie are prettier

StripyTigerTail · 17/11/2020 15:31

Rowan is my favourite from your list.

StripyTigerTail · 17/11/2020 15:31

I don't like it, but I'm sure I'd get used to it if I knew one.

I didn't think of dozy first. I actually thought do ci do as in line dancing.

Similar sounds, which I also don't like but you might;

Dulcie
Darcie
Rosie
Josie (short for Josephine maybe?)

TheDaydreamBelievers · 17/11/2020 15:19

I like all the other names but I dont like Docie and in scotland she'd definitely get called dozy, as in "what a dozy little idiot "

fromcitytocountry · 17/11/2020 15:11

Quinn and Rowan are definitely the best names on your list....however Quinn Catherine 🤔 sounds like Queen Catherine 😬 I feel like your names and the middle name don't really match each others style

Kanaloa · 17/11/2020 15:07

Not keen on Docie, reminds me of dossy/dosser. I think Quinn is too much like quim. Mallory, Rowan and Madeleine are nice, I like Madeleine the best.

user1493494961 · 17/11/2020 14:50

Madeleine is nice, not keen on Quinn but it would still be infinitely preferable to Docie.

MrsSiriusBlack1 · 17/11/2020 14:48

Poor child.

berrygirlie · 17/11/2020 14:47

I think "Docie" potentially comes from Eudocia, that's the only nomial link I can think of. Out of the names you've picked, Mallory is my favourite.

@happylittlechick

No on in the uk has ever been called this. There are so many beautiful names. Choose one that is at least a recognised name.

ProudAuntie76 · 17/11/2020 14:40

Just thought...some people might also mispronounce it as “dossy”...as in “it’s a bit dossy to sit in your pyjamas all day” and “ugh, what a dosser!”.

Of your list I like Mallory a lot.

Or you could have Darcie or Dottie as an alternative?

ProudAuntie76 · 17/11/2020 14:27

Reminds me of the Dohsie doh. Also sounds like the seven dwarves long lost brother “Dozy”.

Sorry OP.

berrygirlie · 17/11/2020 14:25

There's a Youtuber called "Dodie" who's real name is Dorothy, which maybe sounds up your street? Alternatively, Dottie?

Mochudubh · 17/11/2020 14:24

Fandabidocie?

Mallory sounds clumsy, not sure why but Ancestry says it means "unlucky" or "unhappy".
www.ancestry.co.uk/name-origin?surname=mallory#:~:text=English%20(of%20Norman%20origin)%3A,unhappy%27%2C%20%27unlucky%27.

Quinn is a common Irish surname as well as a chain of Irish convenience stores.
Madelaine is OK.
I like Rowan, could be for a boy or girl.

Omeara · 17/11/2020 14:21

I thought doh-see-doh immediately followed by Dozy.

It’s not a great name OP.

RachelGreep87 · 17/11/2020 14:18

Sounds like Taylor Doose from Gilmore Girls.

ShipOfTheseus · 17/11/2020 13:58

Docia is better. That’s a more used form of the name.
Out of your others, all are fine except Quinn.

zafferana · 17/11/2020 13:53

Dozy Docie - it's awful OP!

Any of your other names is immeasurably better.
