It's a n
Norse naming meaning "he who fights alone" pronounced Ane save without the s)- hair-yar.
What do you think? Looking for something strong and unusual.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Somethingvague · 16/11/2020 14:36

I read this as 'in her jar'. Lots of other lovely norse/Scandinavian names out there.

LuckyAmy1986 · 16/11/2020 14:34

Would you like this name? Would you like the inevitable attention/possibly teasing it would bring? And would you cope with a lifetime of having to spell it out or correct people pronouncing it wrong?

If no to any of these, then don't do it to your child!

pasanda · 16/11/2020 14:32

Absolutely bloody ridiculous to even consider it. Who cares what it (apparently) means. Nobody gives a shit.

FourPlatinumRings · 16/11/2020 14:32

So, it's the Norse word for a warrior who died in battle?

An odd choice, OP.

happylittlechick · 16/11/2020 14:30

Well it's not a name.
It's difficult to pronounce or spell
The meaning is not good.

You are naming a person who has to live with this for the rest of their life.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 16/11/2020 14:25

This isn’t a name btw... it’s just a word. What about warrior, pillager or ransacker?

LunaNorth · 16/11/2020 14:23

Hormones, eh?

Buggers, aren’t they?

SionnachRua · 16/11/2020 14:23

It's a cool sounding name but are you from the region? Living there or have any connections? If not it's an odd choice.

MeringueCloud · 16/11/2020 14:23

I don't think it's "he", but "one".
"InNorse mythology, theeinherjar(Old Norseliterally "army of one", "those who fight alone"[1][2]) are those who have died in battle and are brought toValhallabyvalkyries. In Valhalla, the einherjar eat their fill of the nightly-resurrecting beastSæhrímnir, and valkyries bring themmead(which comes from the udder of the goatHeiðrún). The einherjar prepare daily for the events ofRagnarök, when they will advance for an immense battle at the field ofVígríðr." Wikipedia

TitilatedOcelot · 16/11/2020 14:19

Enya?

BobbyEgg · 16/11/2020 14:17

Also why would you want your child to fight alone? Surely they should have people around them so they don't have to!

JemimaTiggywinkle · 16/11/2020 14:17

What a gorgeous name!

Emmapeeler2 · 16/11/2020 14:16

Even with the pronunciation explained I don't like it, sorry. And you will be doing that a lot!

JellyfishandShells · 16/11/2020 14:16

So it’s essentially Anya but spelt differently ?

JuliaJohnston · 16/11/2020 14:15

Dreadful.

Pantsomime · 16/11/2020 14:15

Sorry thought this was a wind up- trying to pronounce it from your post title it sounded - in English - like Vagina

movingonup20 · 16/11/2020 14:14

It's bad enough having to spell my ordinary English name every time because people can't spell!

RightOnTheEdge · 16/11/2020 14:14

Look at the difficulties you had trying to explain how to pronounce it. Imagine a lifetime of that you would be inflicting on your poor dd.
Anyway it's not a nice sound.

nocoolnamesleft · 16/11/2020 14:14

He who fights alone does not sound like a name for a girl. Even without the translation I read it as a male name.

TeaAndHobnob · 16/11/2020 14:14

No way. Your child will spend a lifetime spelling their name out for people and correcting their pronunciation. Why would you do that to them?

pincertoe · 16/11/2020 14:13

Don't like it. I am uk though so if you are in another country then it might be different. I don't think it looks a nice name nor sounds nice and if you are in the UK the poor kid will be forever telling people how to pronounce it - and you have proven that even doing that isn't easy!

SBTLove · 16/11/2020 14:12

It means ‘he’ so not a girl name

LaMarschallin · 16/11/2020 14:12

like sane

Right.

Not keen myself, I'm afraid - looks and sounds a bit clunky to me.
And will take a lot of of explaining every time some encounters it for the first time, I would guess.

TheChineseChicken · 16/11/2020 14:12

@ZadieZadie

If it takes three messages to explain how to say it, it's not going to work.

EssentialHummus · 16/11/2020 14:11

Really not keen. Also "He who fights alone" for a girl?
