@Wherethereshope

Have you decided to stick with Archie?! I really love it

Rosesaresweet · 28/11/2020 14:16

Archibald is really ugly.

Archie is twee and cutesy. It will not age well imo.

I really dislike the name.

TheNanny23 · 28/11/2020 05:47

Archie was a popular name before H&M , and there will be enough of them around in future years.
When a friend named her baby Archie, I thought like the ginger lad in the comics!

I would just warn you that in 2019 we went on holiday and I kid you not every single boy on the plane was called Archie. Five of them. All turned around when a parent bellowed it (well apart from the baby). It’s ridiculously common where I am (north west) along with Teddy and you can expect 3-5 to a class.

@Wherethereshope

Just debating the name Archie myself.. it is a family name which my husband loves.
Personally I do not see it as a ‘twee’ name that will not suit an adult as all the Archie’s I know are old, also agree that it will not date as it has been around for so long unlike Arlo, Hunter, Jackson..

ShipOfTheseus · 15/11/2020 18:09

I don’t think it suits an adult man - unless by choice as a nickname. However, I have heard that it has for a long time been used as a stand-alone name in Scotland.
I do think people will think of Harry and Meghan.
Names like Charlie, Freddie etc are already dated, if you think it might fit in with that style. The Charlies and Freddies I know are in their early 20s or late teens.

MikeUniformMike · 15/11/2020 17:43

I think it started to be popular from a 1990s sunday night tv serial called Monarch of the Glen. It sounds better in a scottish accent.

An acquaintance named her baby boy Archibald not long after and I remember people saying (not to her face) that it was awful. I didn't think it was awful just that they probably would call him Archie.

I thought it was overpopular before H&M used it, and did think it was a strange choice, but if you love it OP, then use it.

Usual advice, check that it goes with the surname.

doadeer · 15/11/2020 17:33

I really like it. I think it works for boy or adult. I'm a fan.

HeronLanyon · 15/11/2020 17:24

If you don’t want opinions of a name don’t frame your enquiry ‘opinions please’ with additional questions about whether it is good for an adult and if it is too connected with H&M
In order -
I am not fond of it.
It’s not great in my opinion for an adult - bit cutesy a bit like Alfie.
Yes I think it may be connected in people’s minds with H&M.

MerchantOfVenom · 15/11/2020 17:23

You said you really liked the name, but opinions please.

People are giving them. IRL, people tell you what they think you want to hear. On here, you get (brutally) honest opinions.

Squiffany · 15/11/2020 17:17
@DramaAlpaca I asked for opinions on whether it would age well / royal connection. It seems people can't help but throw in how much they hate it 😂
Which is their opinion. Which is what you asked for.

Poppyolive90 · 15/11/2020 17:15

Not my kind of thing at all. Not sure why but it’s just a bit tacky to me

Wherethereshope · 15/11/2020 17:13

You did ask for opinions, OP.

Mine is that it's awful. The -ie ending makes it cutesy and I can't bear cutesy names on either boys or girls.

Wherethereshope · 15/11/2020 17:06

Thanks all.. my defensive reaction to anything a little negative makes me realise how much I like it!!

I like the perspective that he'll be in an age group of Charlie, Freddie, daisy etc I hadn't thought of that 😊

I really don't think anyone would think you copied M&H seen as it was a popular mainstream name wayyy before they chose it.
Not like Harper for example (which I like btw but it came from nowhere then boomed after Beckhams so is very different scenario. Archie was already top 20)
No one seems to say this as much about Charlotte George and Louis!

It's a lovely name OP- use it!

LadyEloise · 15/11/2020 15:00

People will think you copied Meghan and Harry.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 15/11/2020 14:17

@AgeLikeWine thankfully my Archie came along long before H&M so they essentially copied me Grin

pilates · 15/11/2020 13:34

Not a fan but I like it for a dog’s name

AgeLikeWine · 15/11/2020 12:39

Archie is a great name, but everyone will inevitably assume you’re copying H&M, so it’s up to you if that’s how you want your choice of name to be viewed.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 15/11/2020 12:35

I think it’s nice at any age, it is quite popular along with Alfie, I’m aware of a few aged around 13 to 20

TheChristmasPrincess · 15/11/2020 12:32

I perceive Archie as being a dog’s name.

Meepmeeep · 15/11/2020 12:16

I actually always associate the name with an older man - not a baby. I was quiet surprised when I saw it become quite popular.

Thefaceofboe · 15/11/2020 12:12

IMO, Archie is awful and is very very popular. But if you like it, go for it.

MimiDaisy11 · 15/11/2020 12:05

I think it works as an adult name and while it's popular it's not in the top 10 so it's likely you'll meet others but it's not Jack and Oliver popular.

On the rudeness. People on the internet are blunt and it's best to expect that when posting. Obviously in real life when you say you like a name you're unlikely to get people telling you it's horrible or a dog's name etc.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 15/11/2020 11:32

I always think that a 90 year old Archie is also more palatable than some of the names of the children at the schools around here 🙈
