Marlowe (for a girl)... thoughts?

Whatever you do don't spell it Marlo .

Thanks for your responses 😊 My own name is a place name so I don't find it particularly odd in that regard! Come to think of it, my husband's name is also a place name that is very commonly used as a first name, and his mum's name is a place name as well 😆 There are so many place name names out there I find interesting that so many people feel negatively about it for that reason... although I do understand it might be weird if you live very locally (I don't).

Little Marlow's t'other side of the motorway. There's a Marlow Bottom nearby.

I am maybe a bit too familiar with the town to see it as a name. It is a nice town though. Home of Tom Kerridge's gastropub! Lovely park and riverside. I'm sure if I knew a little Marlowe, I'd get used to it being the name of a child and not a town quite quickly though.

It's quite a nice sound, somewhere between mellow and Marnie. Wouldn't be my first choice, but there isn't anything terrible about it imo.

I love it! I kept suggesting it to my husband but he refused because he saw it as a boys name. I did get him to agree to Margot which sounds similar but then we used something else.

I live not that far away. I commented on a thread that Marlowe Scout was probably best avoided in he surname was Hutt.

Nareece isn't welsh. Maybe the poster was thinking of Nerys (pron NERR-is).

Haf (Hahve) is a bog standard Welsh middle name.

Not a fan. Marlowe is obviously a place name known to many but the connotations of mar (to spoil), mardy (to be moody). Also Marley (a film dog or tile grout), Ma sounds like word for mother and Lowe, well who wants to be low? Sorry just trying to save your girl from all of the above.

It's not to my taste, but if you want to use it drop the e at the end as it's just a bit pointless. Do you like Marnie instead?

I think for women its more commonly spelt Marlo, based on a sample size of one, the actress Marlo Thomas.
I prefer it with the "we".
