And would love suggestions of Welsh middle names to go with it!

Terrible. It is a town (albeit without the added E. I suppose you could add insult to injury and use it as a second name - Marsh being the first!

MikeUniformMike · 13/11/2020 13:37

There's a Well End near Marlow. Maybe that could be tweaked into a first name?

Failing that, you could have Redding and Hurley.

PickleWithEverything · 13/11/2020 13:34

Well, it's better than being called Sloughe or Maidenheade. I can't see it being a very controversial name, it's just not a very nice name.

isittimetogotobed · 13/11/2020 13:29

I like it

MikeUniformMike · 13/11/2020 13:27

Bethany isn't welsh. It's a place mentioned in the Bible.
It is Bethania in Welsh. (Beth-ANN-ya)

Ceridwen is pronounced Kerr (like in Kerry) ID-wen

Kanaloa · 13/11/2020 13:17

I think Marlowe is really pretty. I don’t know many Welsh names but I really love Carys, I hadn’t heard it before then my dd made a friend with this name, I really thought it was so beautiful.

Pinkclarko · 13/11/2020 13:17

I love it

Beamur · 13/11/2020 13:05

I like it. Think it will be lovely with a Welsh middle name.

MikeUniformMike · 13/11/2020 13:01

Briallen
Gwenllian

Neither are suitable middle names because of the ll.

Flappingflamingo · 13/11/2020 12:57

Can't believe I missed some such obvious one such as India, Chelsea and brittney! 😂 🤦🏻‍♀️
Very surprised by bethany, for some reason I always thought it was Welsh, didn't know it was a place

Tucancrossing · 13/11/2020 12:45

@Flappingflamingo well my name and my MIL's name are on here! www.closeronline.co.uk/amp/family/news/baby-girl-names-places-cities-geography-summer-holiday/

Now I'm wondering about all the places that could possibly make up the names in your family, Sidney, Paris Florence, Chester... Sorry got side tracked!! 😂 😂
As for marlowe, I'm really not a fan sorry but love both Sian and cerys (both middle names in my family 😊)

MercyBodle · 13/11/2020 04:48

I don't mind Marlowe.
Marlowe Ceridwen
Marlowe Rhiannon
Marlowe Bethan
Marlowe Briallen
Marlowe Gwenllian

MikeUniformMike · 12/11/2020 19:28

Elin would go nicely, otherwise I was going to suggest a saint's name or a river name, if there was one suitable (e.g, Alwen).

I think that if you look at the Welsh name threads you'll get names that are too strong to use as a middle name.

Other suggestions: Rhiannon (Rhee-ANN-on), Heledd (HELL-eth, eth like in tether), Annest (welsh for Agnes.ANN-est), Alwenna, Eleri (el-ERR-y), Eluned (el-IN-ed).

All flow nicely with Marlowe.

CatteStreet · 12/11/2020 19:16

Wasn't Christopher Marlowe killed in a pub brawl?

CatteStreet · 12/11/2020 19:14

It's not a girl's name, or even a first name really.

But I have to confess to absolutely not 'getting' the trend of giving girls surnames as given names.

happylittlechick · 12/11/2020 19:11

I know a couple of baby Marlowes. It's climbing and I think will be very popular in the next few years.

Teaseall · 12/11/2020 18:55

@MikeUniformMike referred to fondly as Marlow's arse Grin

Tucancrossing · 12/11/2020 18:54

@MikeUniformMike my husband's family are from South Wales. No particular meaning necessarily, but my son has a Welsh middle name to honour that side of the family, and we'd like to continue the tradition with our other children.

There's an excellent (male) rapper called Marlowe.

MikeUniformMike · 12/11/2020 18:16

Does it go with the surname, @Tucancrossing?
If you give an idea of what sort of middle name you like or a meaning you'd like, I'll have a think.

If you have some connection with Wales, an area or a place name might give a connection.

florascotia2 · 12/11/2020 17:27

OP For many people, either the rather bland (sorry!) Thames Valley commuter village or the very famous Tudor playwright Kit Marlowe will be the first associations for that name.

Marlowe was a brilliant playwright but not someone I'd particularly want to name a daughter after. Not because he was gay - that was fine - but because he was violent, said to be cruel, and involved in a lot of very mysterious/ shady plots, spying projects and perhaps betrayals.

But each to their own, of course.

dolphinpose · 12/11/2020 17:18

I like it and I am usually very snobby about surnames as forenames.

Marlowe Carys?

no.
might as well have dickens or shakespeare.

The suggestion of Wren as a name makes me think of St Paul's Cathedral
