Hi, I am still really undecided on this name. Thoughts please 😄

The problem with Willow is not nn but associations with slenderness, height etc. What if your DD turns out to be short and stocky and maybe a bit chubby?
Pussy Willow is lovely and not in my experience associated with the other meaning of pussy.
Astrid, on the other hand, is fresh to the English speaker and doesn’t have the sort of associations many more common names have.

I know a very cool 10yr old Astrid

IdblowJonSnow · 08/12/2020 00:41

I love it too. I think its it's a strong name.

Prettysparkles · 08/12/2020 00:38

When one thinks of the name Willow, would you think of rude connotations, such as Pussy Willow? Or do you think that is overthinking a lovely name?

It's OK. I prefer Aster.

I love, but wouldn't dare use, Astraea.

I went to ballet class with an Astrid in the 80s, she was tall, slender, blonde and graceful. I was... none of those things. Whenever I hear the name it reminds me of how fabulous she was.

RecoveringChocaholic · 13/11/2020 23:23

Love it. 😍 Was my preferred name for dd but got vetoed. There's an Astrid in DS's class at school but not come across another one.

june2007 · 13/11/2020 23:22

Yes I like.

lobsteroll · 13/11/2020 23:20

@Rocococo one of mine was also delivered by an Astrid - she was fab. Wonder if it was the same one 🤣

Love the name, pretty yet punchy. I think it's a lovely strong girls name.

mocktail · 13/11/2020 23:17

I like it. I've never met an Astrid.

MustardMitt · 13/11/2020 23:14

I love Astrid. It's unusual and strong. I also really love Avril which has a similar sound.

YouAndMeAndTheDevilMakesThree · 12/11/2020 19:17

I love it, DP vetoed it sadly Sad

seriousandloyal · 12/11/2020 19:14

Beautiful name.

newnewnewbuild · 12/11/2020 19:11

I love it, I've always liked it since I first heard it a few years ago but after watching Crazy Rich Asians I love it!

Ourbedislisting · 12/11/2020 19:09

Love it

Antonin · 12/11/2020 17:38

I love it. Strong but elegant and easy to pronounce and spell

MimiDaisy11 · 12/11/2020 15:50

@Wornout12108

I love it, however I cannot hear the name And not think of the episode of the US Office where Michael reads the name As As-turd, it was a brilliant episode. It's a beautiful name just reminds me of that episode.
LOL I thought the same thing, but I guess the US Office isn't that popular in the UK so it should be fine.
LittleGwyneth · 12/11/2020 15:39

I love it but I think it's the next Luna.

MercyBodle · 11/11/2020 22:56

This name has grown on me. I like it and find it strong - which is good!

Grobagsforever · 11/11/2020 22:36

I have an Astrid! She's a quarter Swedish, Swedish MIL was very happy with the choice.

I absolutely love the name and feel proud introducing her. She loves her name too.

MondeoFan · 11/11/2020 22:34

I like it a lot. I think it does depend on the surname but I do really like it.

For example
Astrid England - awful

Astrid Reed - fine
Astrid Smith - fine

OhMsBeliever · 11/11/2020 22:27

Love it! It was on my list but I had boys.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 11/11/2020 22:17
