I'm not keen, sorry - I feel like it's a bit too unwieldy, and it reminds me of the singer. I like Anya very much. There's also Annelie x

I love it and it has so many gorgeous nickname options! It's also a very well known name but not overly common which is great.

Love it! If the baby I'm carrying is a girl, I'm going to add it to my list. I love a name with lots of shortening options.

It’s a grand, elegant name in itself but I think it’s a big name to pull off. People will naturally think of Grand Duchess Anastasia and the animated movie. It has sad associations, particularly if you’re a royalist or sympathetic towards the Russian royal family. It may help if you do have Russian heritage though, I guess, as it would be more common over there and not so specifically associated with the Romanovs.

Also, the Anastasia Steele and 50 Shades of Grey associations makes it less appealing too.

Would have used staci as a nickname as I love that name

The one on vanderpump rules uses stasi as her nn but think that's maybe not the best (!)

I know a couple of EE origin (4 actually!)

If I ever had another girl, I'd use Anastasia or Anna. Beautiful names.

Went to school with a very English very working class Anastasia known as Stacey, really stood out in the 80s. Then there was the cartoon which is lovely.

I like it (because I am a devout Catholic maybe although don’t see how you need to be to use it Confused). However my boss is called Anastasia and it’s put me off. She’s quite unsupportive! But I’d have used it otherwise.

It’s no more ott or out there than some of the adored names regularly mentioned on here that imo are far more ridiculous- Ottilie/Ottilia, Clementine/Clemency, Seraphina, Genevieve, Loveday etc! Go for it OP, it’s a nice name.

Some people will pronounce it ana-STAY-sia, and some ana-STAH-sia.

Actually, Stacey is a well recognised shortening for Anastasia.

It's a lovely name, imo.

Staysha (short for the 'Anastaysha' pronunciation that was common in Ireland) is another option when it comes to a nickname.

For those pp asking why the warnings about Stacy/Stacey - it was always the traditional nickname for Anastasia in English speaking countries and therefore became pretty popular even as a given name in the 70's/80's. I agree now Ana or Anya would be more contemporary (or Nastya if Russian/Eastern European).

I don't know why I think that about Anastasia. I suppose it's random, I can think of three, two nuns one v religious.
probably because it comes from the easter acclamation, it means resurrection/ resurrected.

a good name. makes a change from the usual micky-mouse ones on here. taste is returning.

I don't get the stacey connection people are making either. It's like saying "aren't you worried Lucy will get called lose-y!?"
....well no because they're pronounced differently and that's not her name...
Anastasia might get called Ana but Stacey is a reach.

I don't think it feels a particularly "big" name. I see it as much less frilly and OTT than, for example, Arabella. I think of it as very strong and feminine in a good way.
I'm interested so many people have commented that the nn could be Stacie though - do people pronounce it with an acier sound at the end to rhyme with racier? I pronounce it azier to rhyme with crazier and I always assumed that was normal.

Completely love it from my childhood reading a book about Anastasia krumpnik ( I think that's the proper spelling)
I read these books too! I loved Anastasia so much I convinced my mum to buy me some enormous glasses.

It's ok. I don't like the traditional shortening Nastya so much, but in the UK, I imagine Anna / Annie / Anya / Stacey would be more likely.

I prefer Anita, which has a similar feel to me and similar shortening options, but is a bit more subtle.

It's a nice name, as long as it isn't shortened to Stacey, which is awful.
