I am expecting lots of no's but we really like it. Have another son called Bodhi.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
whatwouldidowithoutu · 10/11/2020 16:26

@Chilldonaldchill yes I agree!

GlitterGlueGun · 10/11/2020 16:24

Sounds like a nn or a Scandinavian name to me.
Ignatius
Zigmunt
Siegfried
Zbigniew if I have spelt that right
Ezekiel

Ignatius is your best bet really and you can use the nn with impunity.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 10/11/2020 16:22

It’s just dawned on me that it can be short for Siegfried. Now you don’t meet many of them.

Chilldonaldchill · 10/11/2020 16:13

I'm not keen on it. At all.
But I think it's ridiculous to consider that someone looking at a CV will be making judgements in 20+ years time about what the name "means". I really hope people who make comments like that have no role in recruitment; I do and I barely look at someone's name. It's not relevant. We live in a multicultural society and a significant proportion of people applying for jobs in my field and my area have names I've never even heard of before. One was called Phatso. I might think that that's unfortunate but it's also irrelevant.

TenShortStories · 10/11/2020 15:26

I know a couple of Iggys. Ziggy is better that Iggy in my opinion, but it is very nicknamey. Maybe go with Zack (or any other Z name) but call him Ziggy?

Other unusual names possibilities - Diego, Solomon, Woody.

whatwouldidowithoutu · 10/11/2020 15:26

Love it.

abitfunny · 10/11/2020 15:23

It's ok @WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants I totally get it, we've had a lot of what on earth are you thinking comments.

OP posts:
SuperbGorgonzola · 10/11/2020 15:22

Well yes there are worse things, but lots of people here are telling you it's not a good choice of name, which means the people he will encounter in life are likely to think the same. You asked for opinions, and mine is that you're being self indulgent and potentially putting barriers in his way.

It's absolutely fine as a nickname but don't make your son write Ziggy on his job applications.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 10/11/2020 15:22

@abitfunny

Ouch! *@WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants*
Well you did ask! No point in asking if you just want people say it's great 🤷🏻‍♀️

i.pinimg.com/600x315/40/23/72/402372b54d2c63ba04f972c74f718fed.jpg

Whatever you call him, he'll be gorgeous!

PeonyandDahlia · 10/11/2020 15:19

Zathras?

PeonyandDahlia · 10/11/2020 15:18

It's a no from me!

abitfunny · 10/11/2020 15:15

Definitely don't want to make my unborn son's life harder. Surely there is far worse you can do to damage your child than give them an unusual first name! @SuperbGorgonzola

OP posts:
Zolaanna · 10/11/2020 15:14

Terrible idea

SuperbGorgonzola · 10/11/2020 15:10

Imagine the people here being the person who reads your son's CV when he applies for the job of his dreams.

Why would you deliberately make his life harder?

DappledOliveGroves · 10/11/2020 15:08

I know a three year old Ziggy. However, he lives in New Zealand, skateboards, surfs and has long hair (this child is a super cool toddler) and so can carry off the name. Assuming his interests last into adulthood then he may be able to get away with such a name.

For most people, though, it's a big no.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 10/11/2020 15:05

It's fine as a nickname but I'd have Sigmund or Siegfried on the birth certificate. I know a female Ziggy (she spells it with a Z), short for Sigrid.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 10/11/2020 14:36

My cat is called Ziggy ( another a Bowie fan)

I do know of a women called Ziggy - she is German so I've always assumed it was a normal name in Germany at least.

WeAreFromThePlanetDuplo · 10/11/2020 14:33

Ah, I love Rudy too.

What about Asa? Emile?

abitfunny · 10/11/2020 14:26

I like Rudy too @Beamur - OH not keen.

OP posts:
lobsteroll · 10/11/2020 14:26

I actually really like it.

I knew a kid called Iggy when I was younger (short for Ignatius) and it really suited him and was very cute.

I probably wouldn't go Ziggy as full name if it was me. I'd give him something else and use it as a nickname

Beamur · 10/11/2020 14:25

It goes with Bodhi.
Like is as a NN from Sigmund. That's pretty cool.
I like Sonny too.
Rudi?
Came across a kid called Django recently too. Similar vibe.
They're not going to be everyone's cup of tea.

abitfunny · 10/11/2020 14:24

Not a wind up @midsomermurderess I did expect opposite opinions, after all we are on mumsnet!

OP posts:
lynsey91 · 10/11/2020 14:24

I used to have a cat called Ziggy. Lovely name for a cat or even a dog. A human? Just no

SparklyOwl · 10/11/2020 14:21

As long as it’s not on the birth certificate and your neighbour’s cat won’t come running when you call to him, it’s fine.

midsomermurderess · 10/11/2020 14:21

Would it be out of order to suspect a wind-up?
