Which do you prefer? I think they're all due to come around again.

I like all of them.

I like Laura best as its a family name
I like Nicola shortened to Nikki, though I'm not a fan of Nicole
Claire is lovely too

I also really like Stephanie nn Stevie which feels of a similar era to the ones you like

Crazyfaisy · 16/04/2023 09:32

I have one of these names and was born early 90s. There were a lot of us at school and I've had one everywhere I've worked, but I like it! I think they're all nice names, although Nicola is perhaps most 'different' to names that are popular now - people have mentioned Clara and Lara/Lyra/Lyla etc.

SneezyEvie · 15/04/2023 08:26

I would go for Clara or Lara. The others are too dated and not due a comeback yet.

Peppadog · 14/04/2023 20:23

I love Nicky. It has a unisex charm

user1492757084 · 14/04/2023 05:31

All are lovely.
They will make an entrance soon.
Clare, Nicola and Laura and also ..

Sarah, Rebecca, Emma, Kate and Rachel.

Lulabelleblue · 13/04/2023 21:31

Claire

MargotBamborough · 13/04/2023 21:28

I think Laura and Claire are beautiful classics but Nicola still seems very dated to me.

bizmum1 · 13/04/2023 16:40

Nicola Roberts pretty cool

bizmum1 · 13/04/2023 16:39

Nicola Peltz is definitely not middle aged

CherryRedDMs · 18/11/2021 08:55

The revival is still on Dorothy and Edith, Nicola is way down the list. Meanwhile people are going for names very close to your list, I guess because they sound familiar yet different. So Lara, Clara and Nicole, or Elise or Eloise instead of Louise.
Of course, those names will be as dated as Tracy is now once your daughter is 40 whereas Nicola might start to be fashionable again.

AlleZusammen · 18/11/2021 08:45

Laura and Clare are my favourites. Clare is a medieval Saint name and name of an Irish county so not specific to the 80s

Ladyladylady · 18/11/2021 08:38

Definitely Laura. My eldest daughter is Laura, still love the name and she does too Smile

ILoveShula · 18/11/2021 08:28

Nicky isn't cool. Quite a lot of Nicolas, Nicoles and Nikitas around and you can guess their ages.

MirandaBlu · 17/11/2021 15:58

@Pumpkinstace

They aren't due around again, most peple still remember being bullied by a Laura, Nicola or Claire.

There were shit loads in the 80s and 90s and at least one you knew was a horrible cow, usually.

Presumably if the OP or the baby's other parent had been bullied by someone with one of these three names, they wouldn't be considering that name?

Plenty of people were bullied in the '80s and '90s by someone called Elizabeth or Catherine or Emma or Sophie or William or Oliver or James or Alexander. That's not a society-wide reason to avoid those names.

Summerdayshaze · 17/11/2021 00:21

None, but Nicky is very cool.

It's quite strange, seeing one's name on one of these threads. Seems to be a fair mix of opinions on it though.

FWIW, I don't think Laura has ever really been 'out', has it? I've always loved it because of Little House on the Prairie. .

(It's not my name though- mine is the one that can't be shortened, which has always been a relief to me Wink)

@LunaNorth

I’ve always felt quite ambivalent about my name, but reading this thread has made me realise I like it.

Nicola. It trips nicely off the tongue, has a nice feminine ending and a tiny touch of rhythm about it.

The shortenings sound friendly too, Nicky or Nic.

I like it, so there!

Agreed! I'm a bit offended by this thread - downmarket?! Grin
tearinghairout · 16/11/2021 22:58

Claire is boring and I have always disliked Nicola. I really like Laura though.

Whatwouldnanado · 16/11/2021 22:56

Laura is beautiful. Goes nicely with Claire as a middle name if you can't decide.

B0G0F · 16/11/2021 22:53

and I know lots of Clares/Claires and Nicolas

Oh actually I know a lovely Nicola. He's italian.

B0G0F · 16/11/2021 22:51

I've never met a nice Clare or Nicola.

WeasilyPleased · 16/11/2021 22:24

I intensely dislike Laura. Vile ex sil but thats my issue. I like Nicola best of your names but not very keen on any.
Of those dort of names I prefer Emma or Jennifer.

mewkins · 16/11/2021 22:10

It doesn't matter how you spell Claire.... everyone will keep spelling it wrongly anyway Grin

I am one but also know a few babies born in the last 6 years called Claire. I like Laura.

Luredbyapomegranate · 16/11/2021 22:01

I think the 70s name revival is a way off - there's a whole load of mid century Patricias, Jane and Susans to revive and die off first..

So I'd go for Claire or Laura which are classics, whereas Nicola is very dated.
