The nickname Tatty

Any ideas to which name/s could be the source of the nickname Tatty?

Just watched the 2016 Swallows & Amazons (I know the original was Titty...) and think it's rather sweet. The only one I can think of would be Tatiana.

better a name for a dog than a child.
it has negative connotations for a person.
don't do it. why burden your child like that, the vanity of a whim.

I think I read somewhere that Ransome's Titty was Titiana - no clue how much truth there is in that although I love the books!

So many possibilities! I can understand the potato and scruffy potential but still think it sounds like a fun nickname for a little girl ✌️

The Tatty I knew in childhood was a Catherine, but as upthread, I think it revolves naturally.

I know a Tatiana who goes by Tati (she's American and living in the states so it's generally pronounced to sound more like Toddy). I'm not a fan but it's marginally better than how it would be pronounced in the UK.

I really don't think it works here, I just think of potatoes or read it to mean scruffy.

My friends nickname as a child was 'Tatty head' because her brother could not say her name - Catherine. I used to think it was rather cute but it evolved rather than was planned.

I don't know if it's just a Yorkshire thing, but the word tatty means scruffy, worn out - not something I would personally call a child.
