How many Islas do you know?

Hello! First time pregnancy here and we’ve just found out we’re having a girl 😀 we’re thrilled!

Just wanted thoughts on the name Isla... I’ve loved it for absolutely years but I worry that it’s so popular these days, it seems like it’s always on top 10 lists in the UK (we’re in England).

DH and I don’t actually know many babies as we’re among the first of our friends to get pregnant and we don’t have young relatives so I’m not sure whether a name being on a popular list would actually mean that she’d end up going to school with 3 other Islas in her class. So my question is - how many Islas do you know? Ages & rough locations also really helpful! Thanks in advance 😊

About 5 or 6

Thecherryontheverytop · 09/11/2020 20:51

I know about 15 honestly but ranging in ages. Mainly younger than 10. It is a lovely name though.

@SparklyOwl

I only know two but it’s used in a derogatory manner by the local secondary school due to the Isla bike brand. It’s a lovely name but that would put me off ever using it now.
A niche insult for a specific demographic!

A few. Mine is the oldest I know (8) but younger it seems popular. Also hard to know if that's because I'm more aware of the name. If you love it- I'd still use it.

Lots between babies to 4 year olds

bananaskinsnomnom · 09/11/2020 19:42

If you love it, use it. She may share it with a few other Islas at school but you never know.

There’s 4 Charlottes in my year group. Sophias, Amelias and Isabella’s en mass across the year groups. Several little girls called Ava.

Yet by weird coincidence a few years back my Brownie group had two girls called Juno. I’m not even sure if that’s top 1000. You never know Grin

My top baby name isn’t in the top 1000 and if I used it I have the same nerves as you for the opposite reason!

I don't know any human Isla's here in West Sussex. I know a puppy in Peterborough though 😀

ifiwasascent · 09/11/2020 18:56

I know a lot of Islas. It's a nice name but very popular

Thefaceofboe · 09/11/2020 18:55

Too many

Grapesoda7 · 09/11/2020 18:52

I know 3, Isla with Rose as a middle name seems to be very popular.

If you like it though, go for it. It's a lovely name.

JemimaPyjamas · 09/11/2020 18:51

Three, but one is a dog

Roselilly36 · 09/11/2020 18:50

None, it’s a beautiful name, many congrats OP & very best wishes for your pregnancy.

PatchworkElmer · 09/11/2020 18:47

Only 1. I’d go for it if you like it. We chose DS a name we thought was unusual, only for his best friend to have... the same name 😂😂

VenusClapTrap · 09/11/2020 18:42

Four including an Iola. Plus one dog.

SunbeamShadow · 09/11/2020 18:41

Beautiful name, I know one who's 37 and one who's 6.

Joswis · 09/11/2020 18:39

Also 3. As you said, a very popular name.

JumpingJamboree · 09/11/2020 18:39

I know two, one being my baby! I love the name. Think it is so simple and timeless. If you like the name, then go for it. Don't worry about how popular it is.

june2007 · 09/11/2020 18:37

I know 1 she is about 8

CakeQueen87 · 09/11/2020 18:37

3, all in primary school

DesperatelySeekingSunshine · 09/11/2020 18:37

Zero girls, dozens of bikes! Islabikes are rife around these parts!

Lookatthat · 09/11/2020 18:35

A lot. All of them 5 and under.

CorianderBlues · 09/11/2020 18:33

I love the name, but my surname is "White". Couldn't do that to any potential DD Grin

sparklewarkle · 09/11/2020 18:32

97 not including Isla Fischer and Isla White.

TempsPerdu · 09/11/2020 18:31

Loads (north London). Three in immediately friendship circle, three more from various classes/toddler groups. And it’s virtually guaranteed there’ll be at least one Isla in every park or playground we go to - hearing it all the time.

AlexisIsMySpiritAnimal · 09/11/2020 16:49

Several! At least 4 in my dc primary at the moment.
