Is there anything obviously wrong with this name before I use it?!

Hi 👋
Never posted before so bare with!

We are a due a daughter just before Christmas and are planning on calling her Iris Joy. Iris means rainbow in Greek I thought it was a fitting name after a year like 2020! Joy is a family name and I liked having a festive nod due to being born in December.

I suddenly panicked last night that there may be some horrendously obvious reason why I shouldn’t use this 🤦🏼‍♀️ Any thoughts?

We currently have a son who is Quinn Thomas George

Thanks xxx

Iris isn’t a quirky name.

@Gcgjiut

Being honest, not seeking consensus. It would stand out, but not in a good way, in a serious professional setting. Same goes for any other quirky name.
If this is true, 'serious professional settings' need to check their biases and stop discriminating.

Lovely name!

jessstan1 · 09/11/2020 23:56

A very good name.

MaverickDanger · 09/11/2020 23:53

Agree with the two middle name thing.

Iris Amelia Joy is gorgeous.

Starlightstarbright1 · 09/11/2020 23:39

I love it ,unless you haveca very long or double barrel surname i woukd consider another middke name.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 09/11/2020 23:34

What??

There would be absolutely no problem establishing professional credibility. Confused

FelicityFlamingo · 09/11/2020 23:31

@Gcgjiut come again?

God don't people spout some nonsense on here? Grin

Rockhopper81 · 09/11/2020 23:15

I think Iris is a lovely name, but mainly came to say that Quinn is my favourite boys name and is what I would call a baby boy I had tomorrow (if I were pregnant, which I'm not, but still!).

They go well together. Smile

Gcgjiut · 09/11/2020 22:35

Not ‘obvious’ issues but to offer some other thoughts: it would not be very versatile eg in a professional setting I think it would make it harder to establish credibility, and would be hard to understand/spell when travelling. It will also probably date quickly when the trend for 20s and 30s names abates.
But if you love it, none of this matters, it is your little bub.

longtompot · 09/11/2020 22:16

My Nan was an Iris. It was actually her middle name but she used it as her first. It's a beautiful name, Iris Joy. Just makes you feel happy inside ☺️

Magicbabywaves · 09/11/2020 22:07

I have an Iris-with two middle names!

Fouroclockonamarblemorning · 09/11/2020 22:07

Iris is a lovely name.

Chameleon72 · 09/11/2020 22:03

It is beautiful and classy. I think of the beautiful blue flower we have in the garden.
Also English actress Sadie Frost's very beautiful daughter's name.
