DH and I are debating different spellings for a (hypothetical) Amy:

  • Eighmeigh
  • Eiyehmaeh
  • Ayeh-Mae

I don't like any of your spellings. They're just too long. I'd go with Æmii. Doesn't it have a classical vibe?

Lucyinthesky07 · 10/11/2021 17:57

I would never have guessed that was Amy in disguise. I read it as something entirely different.

EnidFrighten · 10/11/2021 09:20

I'd go for a more Australian vibe and have OyMoy

Derbee · 10/11/2021 09:18

Ayyyyyyyyyyymeeeeeeeeh?

KirstenBlest · 10/11/2021 09:02

Aighmeèi

DarkChic · 09/11/2021 18:06

How about...

Amy?

Gemma2019 · 09/11/2020 15:49

Ehhhmeee. I think it's really classy and unique to have triple letters in a name

MikeUniformMike · 09/11/2020 15:42

Or Aimiegh

MikeUniformMike · 09/11/2020 13:21

I think Aymeighe is the best spelling.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 09/11/2020 09:21

@PlanBea

I'd spell it Elizabeth, but pronounce it more like Amy.
This is cool. I could use that as a hyphenated middle name:

Anäl-Elizabeth, pronounced Amy-Amy ♥️

Honestly some of the things suggested on this board, I really wasn't sure if this was real.

iwwntchocolate · 09/11/2020 01:37

Spell

iwwntchocolate · 09/11/2020 01:36

Why not just speak it Amy those names look ridiculous

Danniiaddy · 09/11/2020 01:26

She’ll forever be spelling it to people.
My cousin Aimee has the same issue. Stick with Amy or choose another name!

Antonin · 09/11/2020 01:04

In a 1851 census return my ancestor Amelia was recorded by the enumerator as Mealia.

Namechange8471 · 07/11/2020 23:38

Aighmaigh?

YourWinter · 07/11/2020 23:38

JTA I realise this is for a hypothetical child, but y'know people do this with pets too. Have fun naming paper dolls.... :)

YourWinter · 07/11/2020 23:35

It is unforgiveably cruel to lumber a child with a name they're going to have to spell every time they tell it to someone who needs to write it down, or tap it into a keyboard. Self indulgent for parents trying to hard to look super-cool. Awful to be that child.

Chattycatty · 07/11/2020 23:32

Eh?me

DarkChic · 07/11/2020 23:07

Amy?

Deadringer · 07/11/2020 22:25

I like anal. Has a ring to it.

PlanBea · 07/11/2020 22:22

I'd spell it Elizabeth, but pronounce it more like Amy.

TheChristmasPrincess · 07/11/2020 21:58

Eh!-me??

Enderline · 07/11/2020 21:53

How about these?

Olyviah
Emmerlee
Soafie
Rewbeigh
Jessykah
Alyzabeth
Sharlotte
Ayvah
Ribecka
Lewceigh

YoniAndGuy · 07/11/2020 21:42

You could spell it Goodbyedonaldtrump but pronounce it Amy?

Once you’d explained it once I reckon people would be fine with it
