Hi. I have a four day old baby and I have still not decided on a name for her yet. I like Isabella and I like elizabella, both obviously with Bella as a nickname. What ate your thoughts on both please? Thanks xx

Not Elizabella, it just sounds so silly.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 06/11/2020 22:06

I've heard of both Isabella (obviously!) and the European Elizabetta. Elizabella does sound a bit made up. I'd stick with Isabella personally, unless you are very worried about popularity - in that case Arabella (still with nn Bella) is well known but less popular and could be an option?

Nep2020 · 06/11/2020 21:40

Bella is best just on its own.

mathanxiety · 05/11/2020 21:16

How about Elisa or Eliza?

TashP92 · 05/11/2020 20:20

Isabella for sure!

Is the other name made up? 🤔

emilybrontescorsett · 05/11/2020 18:46

I’m quite liking Elizabella. I like Isabella too.

MikeUniformMike · 05/11/2020 17:22

Elizabella sounds too much like Ellabella

BurtonHouse · 05/11/2020 15:54

Some suggestions, including Elizabella, sound very Disney princess. May be a bit incongruous if she grows up to be a fighter pilot or CEO of some huge international company.
If you like Bella as a nickname why not just call her Bella?

ArmchairCritics · 04/11/2020 15:36

Eloisa or Eloise could be a nice alternative? I agree that Elizabella is jarring somehow, have to think twice as you read it to get it right. Isabella is lovely, though extremely popular at the moment (if that matters to you, it may not!)

Springcatkin · 04/11/2020 15:33

I like Elisabel too
[misses point of thread]

Isabella or Elizabetta - not sure of Elizabella

What about Annabelle or Arabella if you like that ending?

burglarbettybaby · 04/11/2020 15:31

Isabella

starkid · 04/11/2020 15:19

Congrats!
Isabella, definitely not Elizabella which sounds a bit mad

JemimaTiggywinkle · 04/11/2020 12:39

Congratulations!
Isabella is lovely.
Elizabella is a bit of a mouthful, and agree with others that it does sound made up.

PuntoEBasta · 04/11/2020 12:34

Usually spelt Elisabetta in Italy - very pretty.

TheNanny23 · 04/11/2020 12:04

Elizabetta is the Italian version of Elizabeth- fewer ‘made up name’ vibes but still unusual here and can have loads of different shortenings.

CaffiSaliMali · 04/11/2020 10:10

Isabella is lovely. It's been around for a long time which appeals to me as well, it has that medieval queen vibe, like Eleanor.

Elizabella looks like a bit like a typo for the Italian Elisabetta. Is it Elle Is A Bella (i.e. the Eliz is like the Eliz in Elizabeth) or El Eye Za Bella (i.e. the Eliz is like the Eliz in Eliza?)

Also Isabel is the medieval Spanish version of Elizabeth and Isabella the Italian version (all derived from the Hebrew Elisheba). Elisabel was the medieval latin version. So Elizabella seems less a mash up of two names and more a mash up of different versions of the same name.

(I confess I find myself quite liking Elisabel)

cloverbug · 04/11/2020 05:09

Isabella is lovely. Smile

MercyBodle · 04/11/2020 00:25

Isabella

MikeUniformMike · 03/11/2020 11:06

How about Lisette?

MikeUniformMike · 03/11/2020 11:05

It looks like Isabella with El stuck at the front to make yet another El- name.

Isabella.

Other names which could have Bella as nickname: Annabella, Maribella, Christabella, Rosabella, Mirabella, Corabella, Zarabella

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 03/11/2020 10:11

Isabella

Elizabella took me a few attempts to read because it was quite jarring

luisa778 · 03/11/2020 09:52

Thanks for your replies. I only ever heard the name elizabella because Alyssa Milano named her daughter this a few years ago and I always quite liked it as I am not so keen on Elizabeth. I do like Isabella but I am put off a ittle bit by it's popularity, so I just thought i would ask for some opinions on both.
