I'm not a fan of Gabby for short but is this inevitable? 😂

I know one that goes by GiGi or Gi.

Gabita can be used as a shortening. Much better than Gabby.

We have one child with a short name but two children with 4 syllable names and those have been kept so far. Although one child has a name which naturally shortens and it never ceases to amaze me how often people shorten it immediately once they have been introduced!
Me: "this is abc"
Them: "hello a!"

I would never shorten someone's name immediately so I do find it peculiar. However the other name never gets changed and Gabriella is similar in that it doesn't immediately shorten. I think!

I weirdly really like the name Gabriella (I say weirdly because I don't like the similar Daniella or Michaela!). I don't like the nn Gabby much though either - but I don't think it's inevitable, especially if you use a different nickname from the start. Unfortunately I do think many 3 syllable names get shortened so it might be harder to always insist on the full name.

Gabriella is such a beautiful name! I don't mind the nickname Gaby but I'm sure you can come up with another variant or use her full name.

Beautiful name. I actually like the nickname Gabby, I'm not sure how inevitable it is but all the Gabriellas I know do go by Gabby.

Yes obviously things will change over time and they may have opinions of their own haha but we have managed to keep the full names of our other children...so far!

No. She could be Brie or Ella, or you could firmly insist on using the full name.

You can't govern what her friends or other people generally will call her though.

It's a lovely name anyway.
