Sisters Baby Girl - urgent name help*

Roseg990 · 02/11/2020 09:12

Hello all ! My sister who is 20 is having a baby girl in December and can’t find the perfect name.
Ideas:
Ophelia - getting very common so won’t be using
Ocean -
Bluebell -
Tamsin - would get nn tam which isn’t nice (too old fashioned)
Estella - seems too old fashioned
Alaska - probably a bit out there
Aurora - also getting quite common but we love it

Please give name suggestions and what you think of these names
Thanks x

Shay
Cascada
Almeria
Vienna
Xia
Camille

I don't like any of them, sorry! But if I had to choose from those it would be Tamsin, I think the nickname Tam is quite cute tbh

Roseg990 · 02/11/2020 10:36

[quote LostAcre]I like Tamsin and Estella best.

Ophelia isn’t very common (ranked 177th in England and Wales in 2019), but the Hamlet association puts me off that one.
Aurora was far more popular, that ranked 70th.
Paisley (152nd) is also more popular than Ophelia. Paisley is also the name of a particular fabric pattern with a teardrop motif.

I think Ophelia is rising quickly because there is a song by the lumineers.

Stella or Estelle might be old fashioned, Estella isn't.

Roseg990 · 02/11/2020 10:35

Names similar to estella? I feel like estella is a bit old fashioned

Annabel? Isabel? Literally anything but Bluebell.

Violet?

CeramicGuineaPig · 02/11/2020 10:33

I don’t agree at all that most of the names are hideous. I am not particularly keen myself on Ocean or Alaska (makes me think of baked Alaska, and also Sarah Palin!), or Bluebell (although it could become Bella if she hated it). I love Aurora but couldn’t use it as I can’t say my Rs properly (Essex). Tamsin is fine, I know a few Tamsins and none of them are Tam or Tammy. Estella is pretty and Ophelia is nice too, I don’t know about popularity as my kids are older now so I don’t meet many babies!

Roseg990 · 02/11/2020 10:32

@iwontfloaatt

Agree that most of these names, Bluebell in particular, are hideous. How about Rosabel/Rosabelle as an alternative? It's still too frilly and cutesy for my taste but it gives plenty of nickname options - she can be Rosa, Rosie or Belle when she's older if she chooses.
My name is Rose so can’t have that

I like floral names, daisy, violet, jasmine, lily etc

So much depends on the surname and if the initials will make a word (not advised).

Impossible to answer without knowing that.

I like Judith as a name.

GameSetMatch · 02/11/2020 10:23

Sorry I’m not keen on any of them..... but as long as your sister likes them that’s all that matters, seems you have narrowed it down to Bluebell or Ocean maybe use one as a middle name?

BoobsOnTheMoon · 02/11/2020 10:23

Urgent 😂

I like all of them except Alaska. How about Atlanta?

Twizbe · 02/11/2020 10:20

She can decide once baby is here. There is no rush right now. One name might suggest it self more when you see baby.

That said, on the list I like Tamsin best. I knew a Tamzin when I was little and I know an adult Tamsin now. Both were Tammy is children and now use their full names.

Smallsteps88 · 02/11/2020 10:18

And I’m sorry but it is quite urgent baby due early December!

So a month away, and then you have 6 weeks after that to register the baby. So 10 weeks at least. That’s if the baby isn’t overdue, you could have up to 12 weeks, 3 months. Yeah, urgent Confused

Roseg990 · 02/11/2020 10:16

What about the name Paisley?

OP posts:
BertieBloopsMum · 02/11/2020 10:14

By all means call the baby Alaska, if you want her to suffer a lifetime of "I'll ask her" jokes.

And, a woman called Bluebell? Seriously?

takemebacktomarch7th · 02/11/2020 10:14

Tamsin is one of my favourite names but the rest are awful, particularly Bluebell. It might look cute until she's about 2 years old but once she's a teenager I can assure you she'll be wanting to change her name.

Suggestions:

Flora
Aria
Cecilia
Skye
Jasmine
Layla
Amber

@Roseg990

How do they sound like stripper names? And I’m sorry but it is quite urgent baby due early December!
Yeah and she'll be born and won't look like her name then she'll have a few days with no name which is not a big deal.

@serialreturner

Urgent help? Really?

I don't like any of them.

This. Only opened this thread thinking you'd posted in the wrong section.

Bluebell is ridiculous.
