Sisters Baby Girl - urgent name help*

Roseg990 · 02/11/2020 09:12

Hello all ! My sister who is 20 is having a baby girl in December and can’t find the perfect name.
Ideas:
Ophelia - getting very common so won’t be using
Ocean -
Bluebell -
Tamsin - would get nn tam which isn’t nice (too old fashioned)
Estella - seems too old fashioned
Alaska - probably a bit out there
Aurora - also getting quite common but we love it

Please give name suggestions and what you think of these names
Thanks x

If she likes Tamsin but isn’t sure about it how about Tansy?

Scotmummy1216 · 02/11/2020 11:17

Robyn, Hollie

LunaNorth · 02/11/2020 11:17

Is there any need for posters to be so bloody rude?

get a fucking life

Really?

Oliversmumsarmy · 02/11/2020 11:16

We had the perfect name for dd. But when she was born it just didn’t suit her.
We realised she was a name we hadn’t even considered.

Dd loved her name and it definitely suits her.

unmarkedbythat · 02/11/2020 11:14

Ophelia, Estella or Tamsin from your list

But there's no urgency. There will be weeks to register the birth and some baby's names only come when you meet the baby.

Littleposh · 02/11/2020 11:12

My oldest went a week without a name not sure of the drama?? Maybe you should let your sister name her own kid??

B1rthis · 02/11/2020 11:11

Registering births are delayed for at least 3 months on most parts of the UK. You're looking at Easter before this is urgent.
Call her Bunny.

Dontbeme · 02/11/2020 11:11

Chardonnay Nouveau, it's classy and french, no obvious shortened nicknames either.

ReggieCat · 02/11/2020 11:11

Urgent?? FFS.

Get a fucking life.

Flyonawalk · 02/11/2020 11:07

Probably avoid Aurora. It is pretty but is Greek for Corona, which comes from Latin. Not good for a 2020 baby.

BLASTPROCESSING · 02/11/2020 11:07

Anyone who'd consider calling their child Paisley has clearly never been.

MercyBodle · 02/11/2020 11:07

I love Tamsin, my favourite from your list. I know one that isn't called Tam. Tansy or Taisy are other nn possibilities.

Estella is also good - not old fashioned (fashions change) but very up to date I think. It's in the same vein as Ophelia, Aurora, Isabella - long, frilly names ending in 'a' seem right in. I like Aurora and Ophelia too.

I like Ocean and Bluebell, and would consider them as middle names. Not keen on Alaska. Saskia? I love Saskia.

Frdd · 02/11/2020 11:05

Ulster says no to Paisley.

OneofPansPeople · 02/11/2020 11:04

No she's on an urgent mission to paint her toenails or something.

Frdd · 02/11/2020 11:02

Can’t your sister post herself?

Spied · 02/11/2020 11:00

Estella is the only suggestion I like.
I personally don't think it's old fashioned.
Some other suggestions
Bella
Sadie
Heidi
Arrabella
Brooke
Paige
Megan

OneofPansPeople · 02/11/2020 10:59

Another who opened thread thinking you'd posted in the wrong place.
Urgent ffs.

Marcipex · 02/11/2020 10:59

Presley? Nicer than Paisley imo

Please not any more Arias or Ariellas.

SpecialWGM · 02/11/2020 10:58

If I'm honest I don't like any of them but Tamsin is probably the 'prettiest' and the least popular. What about Tess or Willow or Willa?

FelicityPike · 02/11/2020 10:56

Hardly urgent....but anyway.
Awful names!
Also....I take it you’ve never been to Paisley?
Also (again).....is it really your place to be choosing the name?

notalwaysalondoner · 02/11/2020 10:54

Ophelia - love it, would rather have a classic slightly common name than a crazy one that will date in two weeks
Ocean - awful, especially for a girl, trying too hard
Bluebell - I love this but would only use it as a middle name personally, it is way too twee/babyish for a first name I think
Tamsin - I know several Tamsins, not one is nicknamed Tam, I would go for it!
Estella - lovely, unusual, not particularly old fashioned, strikes me as quite European (italian/spanish)
Alaska - too out there and try-hard
Aurora - love it, again, it's not that common, it's never going to be #1 and nor will it date as much as Ocean/Bluebell/Alaska

Elllicam · 02/11/2020 10:52

I had a friend called Stell which I thought was pretty. I quite like Aurora or how about Ariana or Allegra?

soanco68 · 02/11/2020 10:46

Love Estella

LostAcre · 02/11/2020 10:44

@Roseg990

I think Ophelia is rising quickly because there is a song by the lumineers.

It has been rising quickly over the last few years, yes, but you can see that Aurora and Paisley have been rising quickly too if you look at the graphs I linked to.

Regardless, at 177th, Ophelia’s still unpopular enough that I personally wouldn’t worry too much about your niece running into lots of little Ophelias.

Birdladybird · 02/11/2020 10:41

Please think of this poor child as she grows older. Can you imagine a 30 year old trying to get a serious job with a name like Bluebell? As an employer it would raise my eyebrows. As for the 'I'll ask her' jokes Hmm

Estelle
