Sisters Baby Girl - urgent name help*

Roseg990 · 02/11/2020 09:12

Hello all ! My sister who is 20 is having a baby girl in December and can’t find the perfect name.
Ideas:
Ophelia - getting very common so won’t be using
Ocean -
Bluebell -
Tamsin - would get nn tam which isn’t nice (too old fashioned)
Estella - seems too old fashioned
Alaska - probably a bit out there
Aurora - also getting quite common but we love it

Please give name suggestions and what you think of these names
Thanks x

Bluebell is gorgeous x

Champy87 · 03/11/2020 16:16

If you like Estella...

Gisella/Giselle - nickname Gigi
Esmerelda - nickname Esme

Ghosts2020 · 03/11/2020 05:22

Ophelia - getting very common so won’t be using definitely not ❌
Ocean - not great but better than some others❌
Bluebell - not keen❌
Tamsin - would get nn tam which isn’t nice ✔️(too old fashioned) like compared to most of the others
Estella - seems too old fashioned favourite ✔️
Alaska - probably a bit out there❌
Aurora - also getting quite common no it's 'common' ❌

Malvarrosa · 02/11/2020 23:18

I do not like Paisley; it makes me think of how.irritating it is to get to the airport from Glasgow. I do like Ocean and Tamsin (not Tam) and how about Stella or Astra instead of Estella?

Ladderofyears · 02/11/2020 23:17

Estella is very pretty though I think I slightly prefer Estelle or Stella.
I'm not very keen on the others to be honest.
I met an Alaska the other day. I don't know what I expected an Alaska to be like but I think I assumed she would somehow be a bit exotic and she really wasn't.

Turtleturtle81 · 02/11/2020 22:47

Alaska makes me think of Alaska Thunderfuck.

Tillygetsit · 02/11/2020 22:40

I really like Tasmin. Extremely similar to Tamsin and Tas is cooler than Tam.

Turtleturtle81 · 02/11/2020 22:37

@Roseg990

How do they sound like stripper names? And I’m sorry but it is quite urgent baby due early December!
That’s not urgent. I’m due in December and don’t have a name yet. Plenty of time to think about it.
DramaAlpaca · 02/11/2020 22:32

I really like Tamsin/Tamzin, and Estella is a beautiful name. Not keen on the others though.

superstripeysocks · 02/11/2020 21:33

This thread is a classic example of why MN has such a bad rep for bullying behaviour.

OP, I once met a girl called Oceané (Oss-ee-ann) which your sister might like judging by her other choices.

Ellmau · 02/11/2020 19:31

What about Aurelia? Less common than Aurora, and combines the sounds of Aurora and Ophelia.

I would advise against Ocean, Bluebell or Alaska.

Bumblebecede · 02/11/2020 19:17

Wholeheartedly agree @beinggood

Tamsin is a fab choice.

Masssivefuckup · 02/11/2020 18:48

How about Tasmin instead of Tamsin?

Or Alannah?

My favourite from your list is Aurora Smile

shesgonebatshitagain · 02/11/2020 18:41

See the pedants are out in force

Hmm

I like Estella none of the others
How about
Fleur
Winter
Ember

For seasonal and slightly off beat names

Serenity05 · 02/11/2020 18:31

Ophelia - very pretty but the tragic Hamlet associations put me off.
Ocean - my least favourite on your list.
Bluebell - Blue is a cool nickname but I think this works better as a middle name.
Tamsin - LOVE! She wouldn't have to be Tam.
Estella - pretty, and I like Stella as a nickname.
Alaska - makes me think of the character from the book Looking for Alaska - she was a cool, free spirit but she had a tragic end.
Aurora - love it, especially with the nickname Rory.

From your list I'd go with Tamsin Bluebell.

Other suggestions:

Delilah
Clementine
Seraphina
Cosima
Allegra
Cedar
Juniper
Dakota

lockedownloretta · 02/11/2020 18:01

Ophelia - tits
Ocean -no
Bluebell -cow's name
Tamsin -bit 80s
Estella - spanish beer
Alaska - baked
Aurora - i know one who can't pronounce her rs. sounds very silly

SpongeWorthy · 02/11/2020 17:59

Holly
Aurelia
Meadow
Daisy
Indigo
Wren
Willow
Ottilie

Do any of those tickle your fancy?

Happenchance · 02/11/2020 17:53

I only like Estella from your list. I wouldn't use Aurora incase the child had a speech impediment that made it hard to pronounce r. I hate Tamsin.

How about:
Celeste (CeCe)
Isolde
Asia
Araminta
Dahlia
Azalea?

beinggood · 02/11/2020 17:51

All of you commenting about the use of 'urgent' and 'horrid names' are coming across as superior bullies. It was clear in your post op that you are younger than many on Mumsnet and lots here have taken advantage of that to be rude to you. You asked for thoughts on some perfectly normal names , Ophelia, Tamsin, Estella, Aurora are not out there at all and come up on other threads. I like them all apart from Alaska, and my children have quite boring names. I think a teenage Bluebell could be Blue which would be very cool. Those making the serious job comment should not be in positions where they hire people without going on unconscious bias training.

CaffiSaliMali · 02/11/2020 17:51

Tamsin is lovely.

Your sister seems to like nature names:
Saffron
Juniper
Laurel
Rosemary
Elowen
Cassia
Jasmine
Hazel
Olive
Pearl
Opal

Other astronomical names (like Ophelia, many are also Shakespearean too):
Nova
Lyra
Juliet
Rosalind
Cressida
Cordelia
Pandora
Miranda
Sylvia
Faye
Larissa

Some random names outside the Top 100 (for E&W, worth looking the full top 1000 list up online):
Rosalie
Susanna
Marisa
Verity
Louisa
Eden
Natalie
Natasha
Clementine
Serena
Evangeline
Josephine

@BertieBloopsMum ❄💗

CoffeeRunner · 02/11/2020 14:09

Aurelia (similar vibes to Ophelia & Aurora)
Lola

Alaska is pretty much child cruelty. As others have said, opening her up to a lifetime of “I’ll ask her” jokes.

The other names are fine. Bluebell is very twee & better suited to a toddler, but no worse than other names out there.

lazylockdowner · 02/11/2020 14:00

Instead of Aurora which is picking up in popularity how about Elora which is very pretty and not common at all

Sunsetdawn · 02/11/2020 13:58

I really like Alaska

Squeakerfoot · 02/11/2020 13:56

Tamsin and Estella are my favourites from the list. I don't think Tamsin has to be Tam. Tammy is a nicer nn than Tam, but the Tamsin I know is just Tamsin.

Other names your sister might like:
Tamara
Tara
Jasmine
Saffron
Imogen
Briony
Astrid
Hazel
Juno
Willow
River
Nova
Delphine
Marina
Pearl
Saskia
Oriana
