Lara, Lana or Lena

Lyra and Luna are too pop culture-y with the books/films/tv series. Like people using GoT names 10 years ago. (I know two Arya’s and a Khaleesi)

serialreturner · 02/11/2020 09:39

I know 3 Lunas. All of the doggy variety.

My preference - Lara. I have a stroppy 7 year old version

Be careful what you wish for!

Roseg990 · 02/11/2020 09:28

I had a girl named Lyra in my school and everyone would call her liar so that’s a definite no.

I love Lana (maybe even Alana)
I quite like Lena, Luna

Katgolde · 02/11/2020 02:18

Lena

Seafog · 02/11/2020 02:03

@MonsterRehab23 Laina is a lovely name! We have an Aliina (ah-lee-nah) after our Finnish auntie

EuphieKat · 02/11/2020 02:00

ps I have a Lara, but she wishes we’d called her Larissa! We also considered Lana. Not too fussed on your other suggestions.

EuphieKat · 02/11/2020 01:56

Lara

MonsterRehab23 · 02/11/2020 00:44

I really like L names. I couldn’t decide the pronunciation of Lena when expecting DD so called her Laina-old Finnish name. Get lots of compliments on her name.

Enko · 02/11/2020 00:16

I think they are all great actually but in preference

Lena
Lana
Lara
Luna
Lyra

Lara by a mile
Then Lena
Then Lana
Not keen on the others

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 01/11/2020 22:59

Lara and Lena (pr Laina)

Littlepond · 01/11/2020 22:58

Lana is anal backwards.
Lyra makes me think Lycra.
Lara is a lovely name.
Luna - Loony, Lunatic
Lena - depends on pronunciation but I like it

Arosadra · 01/11/2020 22:54

Lana - nice, unusual, I know a lovely Lana and she’s the only one I’ve ever met.
Lena - Ok, but pronunciation issues - leena, layna, Lenna. Likely to be called Elena a lot.
Lara - ok but too ‘it girl’
Luna - lunatic. Also lots of dogs called Luna.
Lyra - ok but it’s from a tv series I think.

Smellbellina · 01/11/2020 22:51

Lyra
Luna

And maybe Lara.

I also like Lula.

Doing like Lena at all.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 01/11/2020 22:35
  1. Lara - beautiful, romantic (Dr Zhivargo), modern classic.
  2. Lana - old school Hollywood glamour (but much less popular than Ava), only problem is if kids realise the backwards spelling.
  3. Lyra - lovely sound and associations (constellation/musical) but possibly very "now"/trendy due to Phillip Pullman books/ tv series.
  4. Lena - okay but prefer as a nickname for Helena/Magdalena etc.
  5. Luna - nice meaning but very popular for pets and too close to "lunatic" for me.
Jonsnowscodpiece · 01/11/2020 22:35

I have a Lara but also like Lena. They are all lovely names on your list though. Those two are probably the ones you don't hear too often.
