Sage/Saige & middle names?!

Me & DH really love the name Sage, but I'm thinking about using the spelling Saige to draw it away from everyone thinking about the herb, I'm concerned everyone's going to say "you can't call her that it's a herb".

But anyway our last name rhymes with Mallone so that's what il use to put the name together.

Saige Indigo Mallone
Saige Tabitha Mallone
Saige Ellorie Mallone.

These are the only ones I can think of.
The names we have after Saige are Matilda & Rue.

I quite like Sage. I also like Rue - wasn’t one of the Golden Girls actresses a Rue? Of your middle names, Tabitha is my favourite but unfortunately it doesn’t flow well with Sage. I’m not keen on the other two.

It’s sage.
It now makes me think of Covid.

Also I think it has a bit of a bleugh sound like beige

YoureRight · 01/11/2020 12:40

Your other choice is ‘rue’? Why? Do you not know what that word means?
Sage is alright, your made up misspelling of it is dreadful though.

LittleBearPad · 01/11/2020 12:30

@ParrotheadRedux

Sage is fine but for goodness sake don’t mess around with the spelling! I will never understand why people do that.
Because they want to be younique

It just leads to a life of their DC having to correct the spelling of their name.

CosyQueen · 01/11/2020 10:37

I like the name sage but if your going to use the name please don’t spell it saige

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 01/11/2020 10:32

Doesn't matter how you spell it, its sounds exactly the same so people will think of the herb.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 01/11/2020 10:31

Immediately thought of SAGE and Covid.

But if you do use it, then the original spelling is the best.

CharityPecksniff · 01/11/2020 10:24

Sage means wise.

For this reason I could never give it to a child in case they turn out to be a bit dim.

MrsSchadenfreude · 01/11/2020 07:05

I am very old and the only thing I can think of is the Watch With Mother tv programme from the 60s and 70s:

I’m a big fat feathery owl called Sage
Toowhit toowhoo!

mathanxiety · 01/11/2020 00:16

Sage is lovely, spelled like that.

I'm not keen on any of your proposed middle names. Tabitha doesn't flow, and Ellerie is going to be misheard as celery. Indigo is a colour, just as Sage could be. I agree the combination would make it seem that you found inspiration in the paint section.

Suggestions:
Sage Elodie
Sage Estelle
Sage Isobel
Sage Alicia
Sage Rosamund
Sage Eloise
Sage Emilia
Sage Olivia

I also love Rue.

pinkksugarmouse · 31/10/2020 21:28

I really don't like the name Sage.

Haffdonga · 31/10/2020 20:55

Sage any other year except this would be fine.

But do you really want a lifelong reminder of the daily death statistics?

(Wouldn't it be the equivalent calling a child Blitz during the WW2? It can never not be connected to the times it's in?)

TheMShip · 31/10/2020 20:55

Sage Independent Grin

Merename · 31/10/2020 20:46

Covid scientists for me too I’m afraid.

elfran · 31/10/2020 20:46

Sage is fine (though I personally only know of dogs called this). Agree with others, use the proper spelling - once people know her and attach it to your daughter, nobody will think of the herb (or Covid).

I like a more traditional middle name with it, so Sage Tabitha or Sage Matilda. Sage Indigo is way too modern/throwaway/colour-based.

MikeUniformMike · 31/10/2020 20:46

Saige is awful. Sage is better.

Sage Indigo - two plants, looks like a green fabric dye.
Sage Tabitha - ok
Sage Ellery - ok

Note the spellings

roastedsaltedpeanut · 31/10/2020 20:45

My immediate thought was the Sage Committee giving scientific advice re Covid

This

Otherwise it’s a lovely name. I like all herb/plant names: rosemary, sage, holly, heather. Quite serene and beautiful

triceratops12 · 31/10/2020 20:41

Makes me think of covid

BayandBlonde · 31/10/2020 20:41

Just reminds me of blessing a house and banishing bad energy Confused not really a child's name

user1493494961 · 31/10/2020 20:38

Matilda is lovely, Tabitha is nice. Sage is a herb but as pp, my first thought was the Sage Committee.

Flappingflamingo · 31/10/2020 20:23

Matilda sage or tabitha sage. I really really dislike indigo and other variations so obviously wouldn't use it but definitely not with a name like sage.
Oh and if your set on sage, I would spell it normally

Ladderofyears · 31/10/2020 16:17

Sage (very definitely spelt like that) Tabitha.

EnidMatilda · 31/10/2020 14:08

Like Sage. Don't change spelling. I think herb is a nice connotation. It's no different to Lavender or Rosemary really and you wouldn't change those spellings. Would not give SAGE the scientific committee and second thought. I like Sage Indigo best. Sage Manila also nice. Sage Emily, Sage Charlotte.
