Hello,
Esme is the frontrunner for our baby's name.
But I'm a bit confused as to whether it's popular or not. It's currently mid forties on the charts but when I've spoken to people they say that they know of quite a few.
Could be regional thing?

It would be great if you could let me know if you know any (and their ages) and also if you don't know any at all!

Thanks

I know a Renesmee known as Esme (apart from her gran who calls her Nessie). Used to go to school with an Esme in the 80s but don't know any others. I live near Birmingham.

If you like the name just go with it. My DD has a very popular name but I don't care. Might sound nuts but when she came, to look at her she just suited that one over others on our short list and it just felt right. I've no doubt when she goes to high school she'll encounter loads of girls with the same name but I don't care. I'm sure she won't either! So just go with your favourite whether it's popular or not. 👍🏼

One is Reception (said how you would choose).
A lot more in the rest of the school, but variations of Ezmai; enough of a reason not to use it. East Anglia.

I don't know any adults and would consider it growing in popularity and not very unusual.

I'm in Fife and know 6, 3 under 10, two teens and one 82 year old. They're all lovely, as is the name. I think it's very delicate and feminine.

Meepmeeep · 29/10/2020 20:53

You are right that's it in the mid forties on the name chart, but it has increased greatly in popularity over the last 20 odd years, so you will find a lot of children with the name. (135 in 1996, up to 1138 last year). It's a name that's on an upward curve.

It's a lovely name though, but she won't be the only one in her year group at school!
