Hello! Ok, I finally shortlisted this 2 names!
Which one of these names sounds more beautiful, vintage and witty for a black African girl?

Amabette (pronounced with the accent on the A)

Lilibet

I wasn't sure when I first opened the thread but actually, Amabette has really grown on me and I like it a lot. Lilibet is ok but the first thing that springs to mind is the Queen.

Elizabeth.

Crankley · 25/10/2020 18:18

Both are awful but Amabette is worse.

Eleonorex · 25/10/2020 18:14

Love them all!

Amabette with nickname Ama

Neither of the names flows easily though...quite clunky to say I feel.

Lilibet just makes me think of the queen

Eleonorex · 25/10/2020 18:04

It is your opinion, yes.

Bohboh · 25/10/2020 18:01

In what way do you think either of the names are witty then?

Eleonorex · 25/10/2020 18:00

Yes, BohBoh, I know the meaning of 'witty'.

WeAreFromThePlanetDuplo · 25/10/2020 17:55

Lilibet makes me think of Lil-lets. Amabette doesn’t do it for me. I love Akiko though.

Arnoldthecat · 25/10/2020 17:46

neither

Bohboh · 25/10/2020 17:41

I'll take that as a no about the meaning then...

I don't see why I should use a name from my heritage

You don't have to, we're just saying those names are not the nicest and certainly not witty.

LedaandtheSwan · 25/10/2020 17:39

Elizabeth as a "proper" name, but Lilibet as a nn. I prefer other nn like Lizzy Elizabeth Beth Betty tho.

Eleonorex · 25/10/2020 17:36

Do you know what being a polite person mean? Clearly not, my dear.

Eleonorex · 25/10/2020 17:32

There is no unique name to anyone. As I already replied to someone else, Lilibet is used in Central and South America as proper name, not as a NN.
I don't see why I should use a name from my heritage, if I like a different name, being it Chinese, British, South American, Japanese, Indian, Thai, Islandic, and so on. I am not used to compartmentalize people, leave aside names. But that is me, of course.

Actually, Lilibet is widespread in Central and South America as a proper name.
The fact that are ugly names depends on personal taste only. No name is ugly in itself. Witty is the same. Your comments are your personal opinion only, which is fine, but there are not 'truth' statements!

Why should be this the opposite of what I am aiming for, in your opinion? Could you please clarify what you mean?
