Indy Roan as boys name?

Opinions on Indy Roan as a boys name please? It’s literally the only name I can get the Dad to agree on. Just worried its too “out there” for other people. Personally, I don’t want a popular name but think this might go too far?

Indy is a very very very common nn for boys. Usually as a nn for the Punjabi names Inderjit, Inderpal, but I do know a smashing 10 yo who rocks Indy as nn for Indigo.

I don't think it's out there. Both of those have a popular feel to me - nicknames as given names is still pretty big I think, but I could be wrong.

For Indy, I think Indigo as a full name might be nice (having lived in Indiana, and knowing people from around there that make 'in-Diana' "jokes", I wouldn't use that as a name).

No one will know about the Roan part as no one cares about middle names except from paperwork.
Indie is a girls name.

I don't find either feminine, and actually I think either Indy or Roan by itself is fine (though not my personal style).

Together, I just think of a horse, like others have said. To me, there is something very lightweight and almost disposable about two "modern" names together like that - I know it's a personal opinion and I don't mean to be rude, but I just prefer one element of a name at least be be more solid and traditional:

Indy Frederick
Roan Albert

... for example!

Indy sounds feminine, or a reference to music

Roan is a horse colour - "an even mixture of white and pigmented hairs that do not "grey out" or fade as the animal ages"

I find both Indy and Roan very feminine sounding, probably because the Indie/India and Rowan's I know are girls

More importantly though, you say you "don't want a popular name" - both Indy and Roan are ones to avoid in that case

Whilst those particular spellings are very unusual, Indie with an IE is currently climbing really really fast up the charts for girls and is about to enter the top 150 names (see graph below using official figures):

Probably rising due to the Body Coach calling his daughter Indie.

Rowan, Rohan, Roman are all extremely trendy 2020 names and Rowan and Roman in particular are two of the fastest risers in the top 100 the last couple of years so variations best avoided if you want anything even remotely unusual.

I don't think you'll come across that many Indy/Indie's at the moment, but over the next few years expect to meet more and more. You'll certainly come across a lot of Rohan/Rowan/Roman/Roan/Ro_an type names though

I think most people would consider Indy/ie to be a girls' name. I like Rowan, spelt with a w.

Indy just makes me think of Indy Ref.

Indy Roan sounds like a breed of horse to be honest. I'd avoid Indy all together as its currently very popular for girls and if you like Roan why not go with Rowan?

I'm not keen on them together, something about saying them out loud together is clunky.
Although he will only be known by his first name for the most past. I like Indy as a name in itself although Indiana is much nicer.

Rowan would be better than Roan. Roan is for horses.

Roan is a type of horse, not a name. Rowan would be nice though.

I don’t like Indy for either gender personally, but I think it’s more commonly used for girls.

Indie as a girl's name often appears on the Baby Names threads. Can't say I like it
Roan - adjective, but it is better than Indy.

How about Raymond, Gary or Philip?
