To me, both are surnames and therefore can be unisex if used as a first name.

Funny that most posters seem to think Parker is only for boys - I know two irl, both girls (but one in Canada and one in the US, it's definitely more of a North American style name). That said, I really dislike it, especially for a girl.

MikeUniformMike · 22/10/2020 07:42

They are surnames.

MercyBodle · 22/10/2020 06:14

As they're both surnames in origin they are unisex.

Current usage though is girl for Madison. Parker is used for both girls and boys, but is growing in usage as a girl's name. How names are actually used does change over time.

Snog · 22/10/2020 04:27

Parker is a cats name

DoTheNextRightThing · 21/10/2020 22:47

Madison is definitely a girls name. Parker is unisex.

Bid876 · 21/10/2020 22:34

I thought Parker was a common unisex name in the US.
Madison more a girls name.

MrsJemimaDuck · 21/10/2020 22:30

They both are very 90s American.

TildaTurnip · 21/10/2020 22:02
@tildaturnip I know an Alison, which is definitely a girl's name....? 😂 Now I'm wondering if it was a boy name in the olden days
Good point! Looked it up and found this:
‘Alison as a boys' name (also used more widely as girls' name Alison) is of Old English origin, and the meaning of Alison is "son of the noble". More common as a girl's name, in spite of the -son ending.‘

BertieBob · 21/10/2020 21:56

I have taught 2 female Parkers and lots of female Maddisons

Giganticshark · 21/10/2020 21:52

Giganticshark · 21/10/2020 21:50

I know a female Parker. It's awful. I'd imagine in the US it's more common perhaps? It's a surname to me

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 21/10/2020 21:48

Parker, boys.
Madison, girls.

TildaTurnip · 21/10/2020 21:48

HarriSON, MaSON, AddiSON ... Son names I think of as male but Maddison is used more for females so not sure. It doesn’t make sense as a female name to me.

Parker-male.

LittleDoritt · 21/10/2020 21:46

Both dreadful.

Elouera · 21/10/2020 21:46

I agree that both are surnames!

I've heard Madison for a girl only
Parker sounds masculine

EhUp · 21/10/2020 21:45

I would assume Madison to be a girl

Parker I wouldn't know either way

DramaAlpaca · 21/10/2020 21:45

Madison is a girls' name.

Parker is a surname or a very unattractive first name for a boy.

SeanCailleach · 21/10/2020 21:44

Madison is only used for girls ttbomk in South-East England.

Parker would be a new one. It's rare for me to say this, but that really does make me go mmmhh... Why would you name anyone Parker?

Quizeerascal · 21/10/2020 21:42

Parker, boy and Madison, girl although I guess both could be either really

ComeOnCoveen · 21/10/2020 21:40

Another vote for
