I like it.

SheilaHammond · 24/10/2020 18:28

Love it.

foxtiger · 24/10/2020 18:20

I quite like it, although I like Edmund even better.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 24/10/2020 07:14

It's not for me. It makes me think of a weasley, snotty, whiny posh boy. It hold the same space in my brain as the name Edmund.

The thing with most names though, is that after a baby has been named something for a while, everyone gets used to it. They start associating the name with the baby instead of anything for anyone else.

I think is the case for Edgar. You don't hear it often enough to have have other strong connotations, like Riley for example, that are unshakable.

Edgar Winter - rock geezer
Edgar - in Wuthering Heights?

Great name. NN (oh, now I'm doing it too) Ed.

Takethewinefromtheswine · 24/10/2020 00:00

Edgar is 52. He is portly and wears corduroy trousers and a knitted cardigan. He has short curly hair and a ruddy complexion.

TildaTurnip · 23/10/2020 23:52

I love it! Underused and solid.

bruisedbutnotbeaten · 23/10/2020 23:27

It was my lovely Granddad's name. I love it

Tillygetsit · 23/10/2020 23:26

I much much much prefer Edwin or Edward. Edgar is a bit eggy.

olympicsrock · 23/10/2020 07:55

Read Edgar the sausage inspector!

userxx · 23/10/2020 07:50

No, it's awful.

Tweetypietwo · 23/10/2020 07:49

It's a great name, one of my favourites!

TheoneandObi · 23/10/2020 06:50

I like it! Gravitas when he wants it, and a lovely shortening to Eddie when he wants to be more fun. I think it mostly depends on his surname. Edgar could scan weirdly with some sounds. Try them together and see

MegaBloxRoxx · 23/10/2020 06:48

Dislike sorry. I also think it is wet and similarly, it makes me think of eggs. Edward is a good strong name, I would go with that.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 22/10/2020 23:00

I’ve always had an irrational hated of this name. Makes me think of eggs too. But it’s probably just personal taste, rather than a terrible name.

DramaAlpaca · 22/10/2020 22:46

Edgar is one of the ugliest names ever.

joystir59 · 22/10/2020 18:25

Edgar is a wet posh name imo. Horrid. Edward is much stronger.

TheVanguardSix · 22/10/2020 18:18

Oh it’s a wonderful name. I love the name Edgar. I know brothers Edgar and Magnus.

BergamotMouse · 22/10/2020 18:17

Never thought of it before or met one but I think it's fab! Go for it!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 22/10/2020 18:06

Edgar has really grown on me (even though I think overall I still prefer Edward, probably just because I hear it more). Like others I instantly think of Allan Poe followed by King Lear and the ancient King Edgar the Peaceful (I guess because Edgar is not often used today). But I think it's a very useable name - quirky, with a sort of aristocratic feel, while still being well-heard of and fitting in with the other Ed's/Eddie's about. Nice choice!

VirginiaWolverine · 22/10/2020 12:01

The little boy next door to me is an Edgar, and he's adorable, so I'm in favour.

VenusClapTrap · 22/10/2020 11:59

Love it. I wanted it for ds but Dh wasn’t keen.

bridgetreilly · 22/10/2020 11:59

LOVE IT.

elfran · 22/10/2020 10:45

Love it. Feels cute but also distinguished.

passthemustard · 22/10/2020 10:37

My dog is called Edgar.
