Hi everyone :)

Baby girl is due in few months and husband and myself have struggled choosing a name
The only name we love is Alaia - pronounced as (a-lay-ah) but I’m worried people will pronounce as (a-lie-a)

How would you pronounce it ?

Thank you Smile

A-lay-a

Sounds lovely! :)

RuthW · 22/10/2020 19:01

A-liar

Would put me off

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 22/10/2020 16:41

I would pronounce it as Ah-lie-ah

emilybrontescorsett · 21/10/2020 21:39

Initially Al lie ah, but then I questioned it and thought maybe A Lee ah.

Firebird83 · 21/10/2020 21:32

I think this is the fastest rising name in both the U.K. and the US currently. It’s very trendy and going to be popular.

baumwolle · 21/10/2020 21:30

A-lie-a

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 21/10/2020 21:26

A - Lie - ah

If Cher in clueless is anything to go by

Ladderofyears · 21/10/2020 21:17

I'd pronounce it Al-ay-a.
It's ok. I definitely prefer Pia. My daughter has a friend called Pia (she's half Japanese).

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 21/10/2020 21:06

Alaïa is pronounced A-lie-a. A-lay-a is wrong. Sorry. Like pronouncing Zoe or Chloe to rhyme with ‘go’.

Pia is gorgeous.

supersky · 21/10/2020 19:09

I would pronounce it as a-lay-ah, I think it's a lovely name

soundsystem · 21/10/2020 18:46

I haven't heard it before and my first attempt would be a-lie-ah but if you told me it was a-lay-ah I'd get it right from then onwards!

user1493494961 · 21/10/2020 18:16

A-liar

mintich · 21/10/2020 15:50

I thought Alaya when I first read it

JaJaDingDong · 21/10/2020 15:49

Al-eye-ah

TabithaMeow · 21/10/2020 15:44

I read it as 'A-lie-uh'

namechangefail2020 · 21/10/2020 14:49

I really like both ways you can pronounce it. Lovely

paperandfireworks · 21/10/2020 14:36

I know an Aaliyah, pronounced A- lee- ah.

sausagedoglove · 21/10/2020 14:27

A-lie-a like the fashion brand

1940s · 21/10/2020 14:22

Ah-liar

However it's very rare I'd only ever see a name written down before I was introduced to it. Plus once introduced it would be super easy to remember. If you like it go for it.

TheDogsMother · 21/10/2020 14:08

The only one I know is an Al-ee-ah

Davespecifico · 21/10/2020 14:08

A liar

Felicity88 · 21/10/2020 14:05

Have you considered
Ayla or Aaliyah?

MiddleClassMother · 21/10/2020 14:00

My friends daughter is Alaia and is pronounced A-lee-ah. Took me a while because I would normally say A-lay-ah

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 21/10/2020 13:47

I'd say 'Ah-lay-ah'.

I have a cousin called Piia (we're from Finland originally), the Finnish double 'I' means the sound is slightly longer, like 'Peeee-ah', but Pia is a sweet, simple name.

Changethetoner · 21/10/2020 13:35

Ah-lie-Ah
