Too Similar for Sisters?

I think I already know the answer to this but just wanted to check.

I have 6 year old named Josephine who gets called Josie almost all the time.

I am expecting another girl. I love the name Margaret but not hugely keen on Maggie or Meg as short versions. I wouldn't want to call her Margaret all the time and know that would probably result in Maggie getting used by others. I love Maisie. But Josie and Maisie?! What do you think?

It’s fine. Josephine and Margaret are beautiful, classy names. I’m not very keen on Maisie though, to be honest.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 18/10/2020 00:31

In Little Women, Meg was called Daisy when she went to have her head turned at the Moffats.

But I think Peggy is my favourite nN for Margaret, incidentally it was my Auntie Peggy who gave me my first copy of Little Women...

PurpleFrames · 18/10/2020 00:21

Sorry to be the rain on the parade but I really don't like Margaret it just screams old fashioned to me. I don't much like Josephine either but it's not as middle aged.

alexdgr8 · 18/10/2020 00:13

i think Margaret is a fine name, means pearl.
i think any nick name is inferior to the full name.
goes well with Josephine.
why do people always want to shorten names.

Ladderofyears · 17/10/2020 23:12

@NicknameNotTaken

I know a Josephine and Margaret who are sisters, but Margaret is older. She goes by Meg and Josephine goes by Jo. They're in their 30s and think they quite like their names.
Do they have sisters called Beth and Amy?!

(I think it's a great combination but Meg and Jo will be forever Little Women).

Auto · 16/10/2020 10:37

They're fine together.

Emelene · 16/10/2020 09:16

My thought was little women too! Josephine and Margaret, Jo and Meg. Smile I quite like Josie and Maisie actually, particularly as they have quite different full names.

JayeAshe · 16/10/2020 08:59

Like Little Women ( Meg, Jo) Grin

MercyBodle · 16/10/2020 08:57

Josie and Maisie are completely fine as sisters, especially as their full names are Josephine and Margaret.

zigaziga · 15/10/2020 22:06

I don’t think they’re similar but what about Peggy?

finallychangedmyusername · 15/10/2020 21:27

Josie and Maisie, Josephine and Margaret is fine, not too similar at all.

6PeopleInAPubSafeHomeUnsafe · 15/10/2020 21:26

That's fine. I had visions of Sarah & Sara or Sara & Zara

CaffiSaliMali · 15/10/2020 21:25

I think Josie and Maisie are fine, esp. with Josephine and Margaret on the BC.

Daisy and Peggy are also traditional nicknames for Margaret as well as Maggie, Meg, Meggie and Maisie. So you (and DD) have lots of options if you go for Margaret.

Scarby9 · 15/10/2020 20:36

Absolutely fine. They sound good together.

Janevaljane · 15/10/2020 20:36

Maggie is loads nicer than Maisie

Bluejay123 · 15/10/2020 20:35

Sorry I'm wrong! I just looked it up and it is short for Margaret.
I had a relative called Maisie, her name was Mary hence my mistake.
Lovely names.

Bluejay123 · 15/10/2020 20:31

They sound nice together.
Maisie is normally a nickname for Mary i thought? At least in scotland anyway.

DramaAlpaca · 15/10/2020 16:28

Not too similar at all.

JellyBellySmith · 15/10/2020 15:26

Daisy is a traditional nickname for Margaret; not heard Maisie used before.

drumandthebass · 15/10/2020 15:25

Fine

Whatsyourflava · 15/10/2020 13:29

Josie and Maisie - Absolutely fine
By the way Margaret is one of my very favourite names - so SO beautiful
Peggy is another nickname you could use

ellenpartridge · 15/10/2020 12:47

I think it's ok. I quite like Josie and Maisie together.

RaisinGhost · 15/10/2020 12:46

It's borderline, it's OK I guess. Is Maisie a nn for Margaret though? Seems like a stretch.

NicknameNotTaken · 15/10/2020 12:44

I know a Josephine and Margaret who are sisters, but Margaret is older. She goes by Meg and Josephine goes by Jo. They're in their 30s and think they quite like their names.
