I'm not joking.... Buzz

DH has come home from work and out of nowhere he loves the name Buzz. Apparently he met someone today called Buzz and really wants to use it. I've never seen him more passionate about a name. I hate it. At first I thought it was a wind up but I think he might be serious. There is not a chance I will be naming my child Buzz. Can you think of any names that could possibly be similar to Buzz? I might have to compromise with a similar middle name. I don't know what to do.

Just realised I repeated that sentence twice, it's been a busy day I think I need to go to bed Grin

I'm quite glad some people like it because to me that means if we did go for it some people would like it.

I teach a Woody. I love both names!

SettingFloundaries · 14/10/2020 20:42

I quite like it 🤷🏼‍♀️

Wildswim · 14/10/2020 20:38

It's a common enough name in America.

brads88 · 14/10/2020 20:30

What about Busby? I think it goes with the other children's names too... also still sounds a bit like "buzz"...

Xigris · 14/10/2020 20:29

I used to work with an anaesthetist called Buzz. Not his nickname, not an abbreviation. He wasn’t even remotely “out there”, quite dull actually. But a good dr which is more important!

Your children have fab names btw!

JonHammIsMyJamm · 14/10/2020 20:28

Terrible. I’m with you OP.

TinaTraybake · 14/10/2020 20:24

@MyNameForToday1980
We have a 'Brave list' with names we like but don't know if we are brave enough to use, maybe I'll put Buzz on there. Other names we have on that list are Denham, Lux, Silver, Everett, Brave, Clay, Watson and Irwin.

I really like it and think it does go with your other names, sorry to side with your husband!

mylittleavalon · 14/10/2020 16:04

I think it actually sits quite well on the end of that list! But quite similar to Ezra? Buzzy, Ezzy- could get confusing?

CarolVordermansBum · 14/10/2020 15:50

I think the older brother on home alone was called Buzz. Its a terrible name, sorry OP.

JamieLeeCurtains · 14/10/2020 15:46

Ezra and Eugene (Buzz). Seems good 👍

TinaTraybake · 14/10/2020 15:36

Uncle Edwin*

Also, the name Edwin, I had an Uncle Edwim who wasn't the nicest man which is a shame because it is a lovely name. So I won't be using the name Edwin. Thank you for the suggestion though.

I think Tom Fletcher's kid's names work really well together but this will be my last baby seeing as I've already got 6 kids and my kids names aren't very out there so I think having a Buzz with my kids Phoebe, Ezra, Audrey, Silas, Rowan and Freddie wouldn't really work. DH seems to think it would work very well but I'm just really not sure.

It's ok. I quite like it but Edwin is better.

saraclara · 14/10/2020 08:25

I like it. And I'm not one for 'out there' names normally. I've seen far worse suggestions on mumsnet that have been greeted with delight. So I'm not sure why there's so much horror here.

ShalomToYouJackie · 14/10/2020 08:24

Tom Fletcher has a son called Buzz, I sort of like it

BeautifulandWilfulandDead · 14/10/2020 08:23

I think if you have to say 'I'm not joking', it's not a good choice!

HeronLanyon · 14/10/2020 08:22

Aldrin. A family friend when I was growing up so bizarrely (buzzarrely) it seems kind of normal. A very not normal man obvs !!

CarlottaValdez · 14/10/2020 08:20

Buzz Aldrin’s real name is now Buzz I think - I’m pretty sure he changed it from Edwin.

TinaTraybake · 14/10/2020 08:17

@mylittleavalon
Thank you! Dexter and Max have come up a few times when we were naming our other sons. I'm not sure if we'll go for it this time though.

My other son is called Ezra! Thank you for the suggestions

I know of someone called Buzzy, not sure if that's his actual name but all I've know him to be called.
If he likes a more unusual z or x sound what about Dexter- so Dex or Zachary- Zac, or for short name, Guy, Drew, Max, Chad, Blaine, Seth, Rex, Heath
