The Name Teddy

What's your thoughts? I love the name Teddy but I worry he won't thank me later for it when he's older but don't like the name Theodore or Edward and a teddy for short x

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

It's awful. Almost ok as a nickname but much too twee. I met a two year old called Teddy and it still seemed ridiculous on him, let alone a grown man.

ShinyGreenElephant · 11/10/2020 22:15

Its cute but so, so common at the moment. I'm not one for wanting yoonike names but I honestly know at least 10 Teddys under the age of 5 just from DDs baby classes and friends kids. I also think it would be a bit of a turn off in a grown man having a name that sounds so cutesy.

SMaCM · 11/10/2020 22:10

We have an adult Teddy in our family. Never thought anything of it.

Luckingfovely · 11/10/2020 22:09

I love it, for any age. But totally agree with putting a more traditional name on the BC so he has the option when he's older.

pinkhousesarebest · 11/10/2020 22:04

I know a gorgeous mid-20s Teddy. Never occurred to me to think it was a remotely babyish name.

BumpLoading · 11/10/2020 22:01

I really like Teddy

And actually think it'd still be fine on a teenager / adult, especially as there are so many about now, there will be a generation of Teddys where its not a babyish name but a common boys name.

ValancyRedfern · 11/10/2020 21:54

Fine as a nickname for a pre-schooler. Terrible as a full name. I really like the name Edmund. Could you go for that as the full name? I think Ted is pretty awful as well on an adult, although I realise there are adults who go by Ted. To me it just makes me think of Big Ted the Teddy bear on Playschool.

KangaRooMama · 11/10/2020 21:53

Yeah It's a no from me too. I hate names like that - Teddy, Dolly etc. Cute on when they're little, but that baby is gonna grow up and enter the workforce.

VillageGreenTree · 11/10/2020 21:50

I cringe to think of a 14/15 year old teenager called teddy. It's a no from me!

grumpycivilservant · 11/10/2020 21:48

It's awful

EarlGreyJenny · 11/10/2020 21:41

Cute but no good on a cv. Prefer Eddie

Kanaloa · 11/10/2020 21:36

I actually really like Teddy as a nickname. It’s really cute as a short name for Theodore or Edward. I don’t like it too much by itself, it seems a little bit babyish to me.

HotToCold · 11/10/2020 21:35

Teddy past about 4 years old is abit embarrassing

Cute as a newborn ....

Not so much as a 11 year old starting secondary school

PatchworkElmer · 11/10/2020 21:33

I personally wouldn’t. I’d say put a more formal option on the BC and use it as a nickname, but I firmly believe that you should like your child’s name (!), so I’d scrap Teddy and move on.

AlwaysLatte · 11/10/2020 21:32

Very cute. But I'd definitely choose Theodore as Theo is a better name for a grown man than Teddy so he has other options when he gets older. I love both names!

Peacenquiet2 · 11/10/2020 21:28

Will just become Ted in no time I'd imagine

jessstan1 · 11/10/2020 21:25

Horrible. Ted is fine as a diminutive for Edward but Teddy has no meaning and conjours up visions of cuddly bears (or if you are older, boys in drapes and luminous socks).

DramaAlpaca · 11/10/2020 21:22

Much too twee. I know they are fashionable but I hate cutesy names, especially for boys.

Firebird83 · 11/10/2020 21:14

I would put Ted on the bc and call him Teddy

RichPetunia · 11/10/2020 21:00

Teddy is awful. Please don’t inflict it on your child.

Oneandabean · 11/10/2020 20:55

I adore Edward and nn teddy while they’re younger but not for older. But unfortunately every other baby boy at the moment is called teddy either as full name or a nn for Edward or Theodore 😕

MikeUniformMike · 11/10/2020 19:08

It's ok but its popularity makes it seem twee. I dislike the name Theodore but Edward, Edwin, Edmund, Edmond and Edgar are all fine.

JollyGiraffe12 · 11/10/2020 19:00

I have a Teddy. He is the cutest little thing. Bit on the fluffy side though...loyal as anything.

VenusClapTrap · 11/10/2020 18:58

Embarrassing past the age of 9.

Roselilly36 · 11/10/2020 18:55

Very popular I know a few Teddy’s.
