Remy - thoughts? And ideas for a middle name?

We’ve had a difficult job deciding on a boy’s name but Remy has recently grown on us. Just wonder what other people think of it? Would you associate it with a boy? As keep reading it’s a unisex name. And any middle name suggestions?

Thanks so much everyone. I also love Rudi but my partner is less keen.

It seems it will be a marmite name if we do go for it, but I think I’d rather that than a name where he’s one of four in his class (which is where Otis is sadly headed!).

I love this name, currently pregnant with my second boy and we considered this.

Remy James is lovely!

If you were looking for similar sounding options here are some others we considered...

Rudi
Raffy
Rumi
Romy

I think Remy Martin is a very different thing to jack daniels. Jack or Daniel are common names not associated individually automatically with the drink, remy is an unusual one.

For me it is more remi for a girl that is rhe better name. I’m not really a fan if rhe male version.

JollyGiraffe12 · 13/10/2020 11:09

My immediate thought was rat then brandy

My sister is called Remi and she has never had any problems with this name, I associate it as a girls name

iloveyoubutilovememore · 13/10/2020 10:33

I think Remy Ray sounds cool.

jajoja123 · 12/10/2020 22:02

Remy is not feminine!

Squeakerfoot · 12/10/2020 22:01

I have never heard it used as an insult. It's definitely primarily a boy's name. I've met a few and they are all boys. It's lovely.

Middle name options:
Gabriel
Theodore
Joshua
Sebastian
Benjamin
Felix
Jude
Samuel
Zachary
Otis

jajoja123 · 12/10/2020 21:51

I know a few remy's OP it's a lovely name
Middle name possibilities:
James
John
Thomas
Samuel

Fishfingersandwichplease · 12/10/2020 21:47

I have only heard it on a girl.

Breathmiller · 12/10/2020 21:46

I really like it. I like the sound of it. I definitely think of a cool wee kid with the name but a great name for a man too.

I can't think of a middle name but I also found boys names hard. We fell in love with both our boys names after a bit of a struggle so finding another one was a step too far. So both my boys have family second names that mean something to us and sound good. Could that work?

Blusteryday2020 · 12/10/2020 20:50

Thanks everyone. I think I’m talking myself out of it after reading a lot of these. Just find boy’s names so incredibly difficult! We thought we had it sorted with Otis a little while back but have since had about three friends/acquaintances name their newborns that recently.

I do think it sounds very feminine, even though I know that it's a male name.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 12/10/2020 13:40

I know a Remi, middle name Christophe (his father is French).

TFSRM · 12/10/2020 13:38

I really like it.

Peeteea · 12/10/2020 13:04

I think of it as a masculine name primarily and I have met several french men with this name through work. I wouldn’t use it but I like it and I think it’s very nice!

Fifthtimelucky · 10/10/2020 20:09

I am nearly 60 and never heard Remy used as an insult (and yes, we did have a 'remedial class' at my secondary school.)

I know a (male) toddler called Remy. When I heard it, it just reminded me of the drink.

Blusteryday2020 · 10/10/2020 18:40

I’m not bothered about the Ratatouille link at all. It’s just a film!

Main concerns are if people think it sounds very feminine or this association with a school insult. I’ve never heard it before, but will be a shame if every person over a certain age grimaces when we tell them his name!

I like it a lot. Definitely a cool kid name.

Roselilly36 · 10/10/2020 12:57

I know a female Remy, I like the name

MikeUniformMike · 10/10/2020 12:45

Another one who remembers the Rems from school.
A no from me.

If you do use it, Martin would be a good middle name.

eurochick · 10/10/2020 12:43

I quite like it. I know a French man with the name and it sounds quite distinguished.

Ellmau · 10/10/2020 11:49

It's a French boy's name. I guess my first thought is the town of St Remy. Doesn't it come from St Remigius originally?

Lucas is lovely.

pilort · 10/10/2020 11:47

Remy is more common for males. The alcohol was named after a person, it's a name not just a brand.

averythinline · 10/10/2020 11:40

I prefer the Remi spelling - as mitigates all the Remy Martin thoughts ...

I think its mainly a girls name but quite like the Jeremias for a boy which it can be a shortening of... but would be ok for a boy
quite like long names as middle names for short names so carrying on with teh english/french feel
Benjamin
Christopher
Maximillian
Theodore
Gabriel
