Holly...

legohaus · 08/10/2020 21:02

...is a strong contender for our soon to be born baby, if a girl.

My first DD (aged 18 months) is Robyn.

Is Robyn and Holly a bit... Christmassy? Neither are Christmas babies.

Or am I overthinking it?

It sounds lovely. I dont think i would of jumped to Christmas but I get the concern. What about Fern?

NewlyGranny · 10/10/2020 22:18

DD2 was due 22nd December and I loved Holly, but our surname sadly made it sound like a tree disease (think Blight, De'Ath, Wilt). I wanted Gabriel for a boy (we could have known the sex in advance but chose not to) but DH said over his dead body - I said OK, if that's what it took. I think there was general relief when she was a girl! She was born at lunchtime on Chrimas Day and has a totally unChristmassy but lovely name.

propertealady · 10/10/2020 22:06

Ha - we have a Robyn and a Holly in our family, both Christmas babies! I would assume they were Christmas babies BUT that's not a huge deal or a negative thing if you really like the name?

legohaus · 10/10/2020 15:50

Thanks everyone! Not sure I'm any clearer on the Christmassy vibes to be honest 😂 who knew this would be so divisive!

@Garcellesaidwhaaat funnily enough, Stella and Joseph and others on our lists. Hadn't even thought about the Christmas connection. Maybe I've got something going on in my psyche!

I have a Holly, born in September, she is actually named after the computer in Red Dwarf, ex's choice, as I chose the first born name.
If it was up to me, she would have been Victoria Wink

EatsFartsAndLeaves · 10/10/2020 11:39

Clicked on this thread because I love the name so much. They're xmassy together but it doesn't matter at all. Please call her Holly!

Whatsyourflava · 10/10/2020 11:36

@OrigamiPenguinArmy yes exactly why would it matter even if someone did make a Christmas connection between the two.
Lots of people deliberately pick the same initial for siblings or "would like another biblical name to go with this baby's elder sibling". Loads of siblings have nature names these days. I expect many are deliberate and many are just coincidences
Holly and Robyn are both such lovely names, u don't see a problem whatsoever. Maybe if you have a third child you could avoid Ivy /Noel or whatever but then again... who cares!

TFSRM · 10/10/2020 09:58

I love both names. How about Hazel?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 10/10/2020 09:53

Holly is lovely. Robyn is lovely. But not together.

Garcellesaidwhaaat · 10/10/2020 09:52

Definitely Christmassy.
But that's ok in my book.
Holly is a sweet name and I like Robyn too. Just maybe avoid any of these as MNs/future baby names: Alf, Elsa, Noelle, Eve, Stella, Christian, North, Belle, Winter, Carol, Gabriel, Faith, Joy, Clementine, Nicholas, Crystal, Ivy, Joseph, Comet, Mary, Rudolph.

Undervaluedandsad · 10/10/2020 09:04

Lovely - go for it.

OrigamiPenguinArmy · 10/10/2020 08:58

I have both a Holly and a Robyn in my family, aunt and niece not siblings, and both with close to Christmas birthdays. They’re both lovely names, put together they are quite Christmassy, but does that matter?

Pudding01 · 10/10/2020 08:50

As a Holly, if I meet someone new around Christmas time, I will get the odd Christmas connection comment.
"Were you born at Christmas?"
"Ooh, it's your time of year!"
"Where's Ivy?".

Doesn't bother me and I don't mind my name reminding people of Christmas.
There are lots of names that are linked to a time of year (Summer, April etc), so why not have winter ones? Not like it's actually Santa is it.

Love the name Robyn BTW x

ButterflyOfFreedom · 10/10/2020 08:41

I wouldn't, definitely too Christmassy for me.

Molly?

Whatsyourflava · 09/10/2020 22:35

Completely fine
Such lovely names
Holly so underused these days

DappledThings · 09/10/2020 21:10

My old boss had a Robyn then a Holly. There were a LOT of comments about how Christmassy they were. It is really odd sounding to me, sorry.

Ghosts2020 · 09/10/2020 03:45

Love it, two of my favourite names

Kanaloa · 08/10/2020 23:03

It’s a bit Christmassy but I don’t think it matters. I don’t mind too much about sibling names going together unless the two names make an awful connection together. Robyn and Holly seems fine to me.

NC4Now · 08/10/2020 23:03

What about Heidi?

NC4Now · 08/10/2020 23:03

Too Christmassy to have Robyn and Holly. Both gorgeous names but unless they are Christmas babies they are a bit much together

ShelbyCherryBlossom · 08/10/2020 23:00

Love both names - go for it!

lobsteroll · 08/10/2020 22:38

I love both names individually but they do stand out as Christmassy to me too. It isn't the end of the world though and ultimately if the name is special to you, go for it. While they are kids they'll "come as a pair" so might get the odd comment etc but as they grow up, get partners/married/kids of their own; it won't matter half as much.

okilydokily · 08/10/2020 22:21

I have a March-born Holly. I don't associate her name with Christmas and nobody has asked if she's a Christmas baby. But Holly and Robyn together would probably make me think "ooh, Christmassy!!".

Firebird83 · 08/10/2020 22:16

I think it’s fine. Even if people do think they sound Christmassy, that’s not a big deal.
