You hear someone is going to give their baby the name Lyric.

Is your instant reaction that it’s a boys name or a girls name?

Nope neither for me. However I would assume you have watched a tv programme on last year and had misheard the girls name of Lyra.

My pony was called lyric , a hefty chestnut new forest mare , really nice natured
But honestly great name for a pony but not a child

The word itself would better suit a girl. But the sound of the word is very masculine, IMO (reminiscent of Eric, I guess), so for that reason it’s a boy’s name.
