Baby girl is two weeks old today, and we’re a bit stuck for a name. We seem to keep coming back to these two: Gaia Delphine and Ingrid Isolde. Which do you prefer? (Please, if you hate them both, could you refrain from saying so? Thanks!)

Gaia Delphine has no particularly special meaning to us, we just like the sound. But I can’t decide if Gaia doesn’t stand out from all the other vowel-heavy names which are currently popular.

I like the alliteration of Ingrid Isolde. I like how Ingrid sounds different to the many very frilly and pretty names currently in fashion. I don’t like the sound of the name Isolde particularly, but the baby’s older sister is named after a character from opera and I’d like that little link between them.

Thanks for any feedback!

Ingrid.
Gaia will become gay-ah and could lead to teasing.

Hazelgood · 04/10/2020 21:35

I love the strength of Ingrid Isolde, so that gets my vote, but Delphine is a very smart name also! I wasn't sure how to pronounce Gaia. I'll throw Erika Delphine into the mix too!

BurtonHouse · 04/10/2020 21:31

I agree with pps saying just pick the name you like best and don't worry about middle name. If she has one it will probably never be used except to add to the tedium of form filling.
As an aside, I like Delphine best of your choices.

domesticslattern · 04/10/2020 20:24

Forget the middle names for now. You'll never use them and it is just going to confuse things. Just choose your favourite first name. Personally I would avoid any name which your DD is going to need to spell aloud every day to people who won't get it, will mis-spell it, assume parents are hippy eco warriors etc. For those reasons I would not choose Gaia.

CormoranStrike · 04/10/2020 20:19

Ingrid, or can I throw Margot into the mix? It seems on a similar vein, but different.

loops9 · 04/10/2020 20:17

Agree with other PP - you should consider Delphine as a first name. Really beautiful

gigi556 · 04/10/2020 20:16

Ingrid Isolde

Gaia just reminds me of yoga. Delphine is nice as others face suggested

Userzzz · 04/10/2020 20:03

Love Ingrid! It’s such a beautiful, strong, feminine name.

Namechanger0800 · 04/10/2020 20:02

I like Delphine Ingrid

CoffeeandKitKat · 04/10/2020 20:01

I'd avoid Gaia, mainly due to pronunciation issues.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 04/10/2020 20:00

Ingrid Gaia

SirSamuelVimes · 04/10/2020 19:55

Ingrid Isolde, definitely!

Peachbubble · 04/10/2020 19:49

Ingrid Isolde or Ingrid Delphine. I think you'll get people saying Gaya instead of Gaia.

Somethingvague · 04/10/2020 19:27

Definitely not Gaia. A lifetime of gay-uh.

Carouselfish · 04/10/2020 19:22

Ingrid Isolde.

very similar situation op. older dd with operatic name, cant decide on middles for second dd, 3 weeks old!

CatteStreet · 04/10/2020 19:11

@polkadotpixie

I'd go for Delphine Isolde personally
This.

But of your two, I like Ingrid Isolde best. Just to throw another into the mix, how about Astrid?

Ewanispurple · 04/10/2020 19:09

Delphina instead of Delphine as a first name? I have no idea how to pronounce either Gaia or Isolde!

MsTSwift · 04/10/2020 19:00

Take into account that middle names are almost utterly pointless and rarely used -the first name is the important one

BoringBarrington · 04/10/2020 18:57

Isolde Ingrid
Ingrid Isolde
Delphine Gaia

All lovely (soft spot for Isolde and Delphine)

Ojj37 · 04/10/2020 18:51

Ingrid was on my list, love it!

ScottishLassie91 · 04/10/2020 18:39

I think Ingrid Delphine is nicer together.
Maybe call her by both names and see what one seems to work best for her?
Congrats! 🥳

TheDaydreamBelievers · 04/10/2020 18:27

Gaia for me

Never0000 · 04/10/2020 18:03

I think Ingrid Isolde is lovely!

finallychangedmyusername · 04/10/2020 18:02

Ingrid Isolde is gorgeous.

Heyha · 04/10/2020 18:00

Ingrid, but only because I've taught a Gaia before and she was forever having to explain/correct the pronunciation of her name. She was shocked when I got it right first time, put it that way.
