Mallow

Due a baby girl in November and this name keeps on popping up but I'm worried it will be a little too out there? It's a lovely flower and it seems to fit well with the middle name Kimberly. Plus it's the only name I love, the others I have shortlisted I just like.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Garcellesaidwhaaat · 04/10/2020 11:46

It's not the worst name I've ever heard and I would probably get used to it but I wouldn't call a child of my own that name (first or middle) and I would not like to be called it either.
Mallow = marshmallow, sallow, marrow.

@Horehound

Wtf does this mean "I'm sure the majority pronounces marshmallow with an E"

It's marsh ma low. That's how it's said. Same as mallow.

Unless you're from Yorkshire (like oneself) and its then "marsh-meller" Grin
PeachesTheFlamingo · 04/10/2020 11:33

Sorry OP, but "marshmallow" immediately springs to mind.

midnightstar66 · 04/10/2020 11:30

Is marshmellow another Americanised thing? Basic phonics dictate that it's pronounced mallow wherever you're from in the Uk surely or do people in certain areas sing e, e, ents on my erm for ants on my arm? Genuine question?

I don't think it matters if the first and middle name are a bit of a mouthful as they are rarely said together anyway and often dropped completely when filing in forms etc

DragonPie · 04/10/2020 11:30

I don’t like Kimberley it’s so clunky.

midnightstar66 · 04/10/2020 11:21

I thought marshmallow immediately- I've never heard it pronounced with an e?

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 04/10/2020 11:00

How does that name keep popping up? Confused

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 04/10/2020 10:58

Marley?
For what it’s worth I also pronounce it marshmellow (Londoner)

titchy · 04/10/2020 10:55

Mallory Kim rolls well.

reefedsail · 04/10/2020 10:52

I think Mallory Rose Kimberly would work well. You could use Mallo as a nn if you wanted.

finallychangedmyusername · 04/10/2020 10:45

OP, do you like any of the following?:

Malina Kimberly
Malvina Kimberly
Maëlys Kimberly
Magdalena Kimberly
Margo Kimberly
Milagro Kimberly

@IslandLulu

Why would anyone pronounce marshmallow as marshmellow?
Really?!

There are these things called regional accents where people pronounce thousands of English words differently depending on where they are from...

Peanutbutteryogurt · 04/10/2020 09:31

Marsh-mello here too. Never heard anyone say marsh-mallo. Also from London.

But yes not a good name for a human.

KaptainKaveman · 04/10/2020 08:58

Mallard?

SeanCailleach · 04/10/2020 06:14

@SweetBabeofMine Mallow is a pretty name, nn Mel. Go for it. She can sit next to Willow.

Marsh mallow is a flower as well as the sweet.
Hibiscus is another name for the flower, if it is the flower you love.
Yarrow is a pretty flower name too. I think of it as a boys name.

DerbyshireGirly · 04/10/2020 03:44

Marsh-mello in the East Midlands too. I didn't know anybody pronounced it marsh-mallo?

Squeakerfoot · 04/10/2020 03:32

If you add a short name between Mallory/Malorie and Kimberly I think it could work...

Mallory Iris Kimberly
Mallory Ava Kimberly
Mallory Jade Kimberly
Mallory Tara Kimberly
Mallory Lila Kimberly

Or what about Mila, Willa or Willow?

Susannahmoody · 04/10/2020 02:20

Sounds like marrow

Either stuffed marrow or bone

Emily is nice?

mathanxiety · 04/10/2020 02:15

How about -
Mella
Willa
Willow
Mara
Mila
Mira
Merryn
Marlowe/ Marlo
Mallory (and shorten Kimberly to Kim)

Not Mallow..

notangelinajolie · 04/10/2020 01:53

Not taking this seriously.
But I will answer anyway.
It's a good name if you want your DD to be forever known as marshmallow which we all know are big, pink and squidgy.

percheron67 · 04/10/2020 01:49

Kimberly is bad enough but Mallow??. Mallory Towers - Boarding School.

UserABCDE12345 · 04/10/2020 01:37

That's not a name.

SageRosemary · 04/10/2020 01:35

The ad jingle for these biscuits went: -

Kimberly, Mikado
and Coconut Cream
Someone you love
will love some, Mum

These are all types of marshmallow biscuits (and that's marsh with an a pronunciation)

Don't do it!

Willow maybe?

Paddybox · 04/10/2020 01:11

As in Flumps ?

Grin

No don't call your child Mallow

Anoisagusaris · 04/10/2020 00:32

Town in Co Cork, Ireland. You could pretend the child was conceived there. Covid restrictions meant you couldn’t fly anywhere so got the ferry and train to Cork, boi.
