Expecting a baby boy this year. I'm English, husband is Greek.

Baby will have massive double barrel Greek-English name.

DP is keen on Jason (Ιάσων), to him it's just a good Greek name that translates well to English (we live in England)

To me, Jason is a 45 year old mechanic who has a wife 3 kids and goes to the same hotel in Majorca every year.

I'm a twat, aren't I? How do I get this out of my head, it's a perfectly fine name, isn't it?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I've actually always rather liked the name Jason. It's not used much now but I think it's very useable still and probably due a revival.

Jason and the Argonauts gives it a bit of a heroic theme.

The nickname Jay is ok too (but not Jase!)

DrDetriment · 03/10/2020 16:26

Yep Jason is definitely mid 40s with a boring job and has friends called Barry, Dave and Gary.

Nonamesavail · 03/10/2020 16:25

I dont think its too dissimilar to Jenson....which is popular...so go for it+

eddiemairswife · 03/10/2020 16:24

popular decades ago, because of an actor or TV character (can't remember which) in a popular series.

My son had a jason in his class. Similar situation, mum wasn't British. Not sure where she was from but could have been greece. I don't mind the name Jason. It hasn't aged that badly.

The cat in Blue Peter?

Got to be due a comeback at some point! I associate it immediately with Jason Donovan which probably makes it very easy to guess my age. But I'm not sure my taste is widely shared, I'm very keen for a Barry revival also Grin

Bobblehatwobble · 03/10/2020 16:13

I love Jason! I’d choose it in a heartbeat if I was ever lucky enough to have a child.

SpeedofaSloth · 03/10/2020 16:03

I think of And The Argonauts. It's not a bad association, I quite like the name.

picklecustard · 03/10/2020 16:01

I really like Jason! It’s a nice solid boys name. Jacob is extremely popular so I don’t see why Jason can’t have a comeback.

littlebillie · 03/10/2020 15:59

It's an old name I quite like it

DramaAlpaca · 03/10/2020 15:53

I know a 25 year old Jason. It's OK, dated to English ears but nothing wrong with it.

WilsonandNoodles · 03/10/2020 15:51

I know a lovely 6 year old Jason. I think I would agree with you before meeting him but he has changed my mind and now Jason to me is great!

cliffdiver · 03/10/2020 15:42

I don't think Jason is due a revival yet or ever.
