Expecting a baby boy this year. I'm English, husband is Greek.

Baby will have massive double barrel Greek-English name.

DP is keen on Jason (Ιάσων), to him it's just a good Greek name that translates well to English (we live in England)

To me, Jason is a 45 year old mechanic who has a wife 3 kids and goes to the same hotel in Majorca every year.

I'm a twat, aren't I? How do I get this out of my head, it's a perfectly fine name, isn't it?

I really like Jason. It seems strong and I think it would really suit a little boy, teenager or adult.

BeMorePacific · 03/10/2020 22:48

It isn’t too bad.
You could always shorten it to Jay? x

Letsleepingdogslie8 · 03/10/2020 22:39

I just starting singing ‘Especially for You’. Sorry OP.

Antonin · 03/10/2020 22:31

How about Alexander?

user1493494961 · 03/10/2020 22:06

Go back to the drawing board, Jason is awful.

eddiemairswife · 03/10/2020 20:17

You could go back to the Greek myths........ Heracles, Theseus, Perseus and so on.

SeanCailleach · 03/10/2020 20:08

To me it's a classical name, from Greek legends. I know people of all ages called Jason. Irish/ Welsh so may be different connotations of class.

PhoneAddict · 03/10/2020 19:55

Very mixed opinions! I think we're going to have to go back to the drawing board, I don't think I can make my peace with it!

OP posts:
GinWithASplashOfTonic · 03/10/2020 19:08

I quite like it. Especially if it's easily translated between English and Greek.

I disagree with those saying it sounds quite dated and it's defo not a Gary type name.

ButterflyRuns · 03/10/2020 19:03

Nope, you're right OP that's what most people would think of for Jason..

midnightstar66 · 03/10/2020 18:59

Eww no, there are loads of good Greek boys names although I've never actually heard of Jason most Greek boys names end in S. as above I don't think it's due for a revival yet and there will be few Jason's under 40. How about Ιάκωβος (Jacob) Γιώργος (George) that are a bit more timeless but still classic

KurtansCurtains · 03/10/2020 18:56

I know a 16 yr old Jason. He's a little shit so I'd avoid purely on that point, but I also associate it with the 70's/80's. I don't think it's due a revival just yet.

toastofthetown · 03/10/2020 18:51

I actually like the name Jason. I know it's dated to the majority, but the Golden Fleece really turns it around for me. It doesn't really matter what a lot of people on Mumsnet think though; if you don't like it, then you should be able to veto and pick another name.

Itstime1 · 03/10/2020 18:42

It’s my husbands name (Irish and 26yo).
I’m not a huge fan of the name but that’s because his mother had no imagination and named him after his Dad. HmmHe does get Jase by my family and J by a lot of people! (Again I don’t like the short versions so I do use his full name and it’s a bit harsher with an English accent).

It’s a bit boring and dated (according to him!) Grin but he swears we pronounce it differently in England compared to Ireland!

Go with whatever makes you happy!

DueNumberTwo · 03/10/2020 18:30

It feels dated.

augustusglupe · 03/10/2020 18:29

Ding Dong Grin
Seriously though, you have the choice of any name, don't pick Jason.

teezletangler · 03/10/2020 18:25

Hmm I'm not sure. It's actually a great name and I love the classical associations but maybe it's 10 years too soon for it? It was so overused in the 70/80s that I don't think it sounds fresh enough yet. I'm sure it will eventually come back in a big way.

JoanApple · 03/10/2020 18:23

Shortened to Jay?

eddiemairswife · 03/10/2020 18:17

Jason King, yes! I've just googled him, and he was played by Peter Wyngarde.

MidnightFlit · 03/10/2020 16:58

The arrival of Jaxon has given Jason an upgrade for me.

custardbear · 03/10/2020 16:57

Sorry Jason is a no no name for me too, like Jeffrey, Colin, Malcolm, Wayne etc - boring and unlikely to have a revival

SleepingStandingUp · 03/10/2020 16:55

And if it comes to it, I'd have to yell Mr Mamoa or Aquanan at the moment of pleasure because I sure as hell couldn't shout Jason in my moment of ecstasy

SleepingStandingUp · 03/10/2020 16:54

It's an awful name. Literally the only good thing about it is Mr Mamoa

mrshonda · 03/10/2020 16:53

BTW OP, I think it's a lovely name

mrshonda · 03/10/2020 16:50

@eddiemairswife Are you thinking of 'Jason King'?
