Three week old DD with no name!

I’m so indecisive that I still haven’t been able to decide on a name for my nearly 4 week old daughter. Her big brother is called Percy which I know is hated on here and I think that’s why I’m being extra cautious this time.

We didn’t find out the sex and I convinced myself it was going to be another boy. I found it a lot easier to find boys names I liked than girls.

My favourite name is Winifred but I am worried about name calling, mispronunciations and I am not 100% sure about the nickname Winnie. Other names we like are:

Phoebe
Heidi
Erica (this is because I wanted Eric if it was a boy)
Amber
Dorothy (although DH isn’t as keen)

However I would prefer a name that isn’t ultra popular and I know that most of the above are in the top 100. Her middle name will be Jennifer.

Any thoughts/suggestions? Thanks.

Like Winifred but think it might be a bit much with Jennifer - dadada dadada. Probably a two syllable first name would sound better - dada dadada. Pp suggestion of Lilith would be lovely but check the meaning if that sort of thing matters to you - I think she's a demon in Judaism!

Twizbe · 01/10/2020 13:54

I like Winnifred and if you do as well go for that.

You don't have to shorten a name at all and you can start the nickname as well.

You could go for Fred or Freddie or Winn.

Percy is a fab name. Not in an offensive way but it’s so awful that it’s adorable. GrinIYSWIM.

I love Dorothy but it’s not useable if your DH isn’t keen.
I think the best 2 are Phoebe and Heidi. Plus the both flow well with Jennifer

Mrsjayy · 01/10/2020 13:53

Although Leia Smile

Mrsjayy · 01/10/2020 13:53

Not really, he’s 5 and comes up with names from Star Wars or Mario Kart!

Fair enough that's maybe a bit to much for a 5 year 0ld.

TheDeckchairGardener · 01/10/2020 13:52

I know there is no rush to register her as they are running behind at the moment. It wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t for everyone constantly asking us if we have decided yet!

From your list I would choose Heidi.

EchidnasPhone · 01/10/2020 13:51

Heidi or Martha as suggested up the top.

Piggyhoolier · 01/10/2020 13:49

I really like Erica but agree with a PP that Erica Jennifer is quite a tongue twister.

How about Georgette, Audrey/Audrina, Lucille, Lucia, Primrose, Flora, Rachel, Aisling

TheDeckchairGardener · 01/10/2020 13:48

@Mrsjayy

apart from little Munchkin is there any names her brother likes ?

But she can't be "the baby" for a year !

TheDeckchairGardener · 01/10/2020 13:46

@Somethingvague

Definitely not Winifred! And it would definitely end up Winnie. All the others are OK - I think Erica is nice without being too different.

Suggestions:
Erin
Peggy
Lilian
Wren
Olive

I did consider Peggy ( I like Peggy-Sue even more like the Buddy Holly song😂) but thought it would be a bit twee with Percy.

Op I think you have a year to register births at the moment - we had a year for DC2 born June. Worth checking with your council as they've definitely relaxed in some areas!

Mrsjayy · 01/10/2020 13:39

Erica is the Latin name for heather.

Is it did not know that still sounds stern. HEATHER is lovely though

RunningWaterfall · 01/10/2020 13:36

I like Amber but not sure it goes well with Jennifer. Same with Erica.

Phoebe and Heidi are nice, I’d go for Heidi over Phoebe to have a different first initial from her brother. Don’t like Dorothy much.

Other suggestions: Rosemary, Molly (although that might be too popular), Annie

Llamapolice · 01/10/2020 13:35

I love Percy but not Winifred. Amber is my favourite off your list. Other ideas:
Lydia
Rosalind
Maud
Helen
Laurel

TheDeckchairGardener · 01/10/2020 13:35

At the moment we are just calling her ‘The baby’. DS is calling her ‘Little Munchkin’.

I know I need to decide on something soon!

steppemum · 01/10/2020 13:34

I like Amber, especially with the autumn colours around and an autumn birthday.

Winifred could be Wyn as a nn?

Erica is the Latin name for heather.

Mrsjayy · 01/10/2020 13:33

Heidi is my immediate favourite, the rest are fine except Erica that sounds too stern !

ememem84 · 01/10/2020 13:32

What are you calling her now if she has no name?

BigFatLiar · 01/10/2020 13:32

I think you have three weeks in Scotland to register the birth, six weeks elsewhere.

It's a name and if it's not one that's a bit 'different' then provided you like it just use it. Names come into fashion and go out, what does it matter. Whatever name you give her you won't love her more or less because of it. Dorothy, Amber, Heidi, Jane, Jennifer or any other name I'm sure you'll love her just the same.

TheDeckchairGardener · 01/10/2020 13:31

I would love to use Jennifer as a first name but it’s my name so would be a bit weird!

Whatsyourflava · 01/10/2020 13:30

How about Willa

Erica is really nice

India999 · 01/10/2020 13:29

I love Percy!! I'm sure you'll settle on something. Don't feel under pressure from other people. X
