Three week old DD with no name!

I’m so indecisive that I still haven’t been able to decide on a name for my nearly 4 week old daughter. Her big brother is called Percy which I know is hated on here and I think that’s why I’m being extra cautious this time.

We didn’t find out the sex and I convinced myself it was going to be another boy. I found it a lot easier to find boys names I liked than girls.

My favourite name is Winifred but I am worried about name calling, mispronunciations and I am not 100% sure about the nickname Winnie. Other names we like are:

Phoebe
Heidi
Erica (this is because I wanted Eric if it was a boy)
Amber
Dorothy (although DH isn’t as keen)

However I would prefer a name that isn’t ultra popular and I know that most of the above are in the top 100. Her middle name will be Jennifer.

Any thoughts/suggestions? Thanks.

Isabel Jennifer
Rachael Jennifer

I like Erica and Amber. Amber better with Jennnifer. Neither of my sons had names until they were nearly a month old so I sympathise. With my second I just booked the registrar in desperation and we were still arguing in the car on the way there. Several years in though we made the right choices!

Winnie/Winifred - yes
Phoebe - yes
Heidi- yes
Erica - yes
Dorothy - the winner, Dot/Dotty is super cool.

If you love Winifred, name her Winifred! Try not to think about trends, or whether the name goes with her brother’s, name her the name your instinct goes with :)

As an aside (and if you still want suggestions!), Norma is a pretty name!

hoochymamgu · 02/10/2020 12:19

Still love Winifred by the way Grin

Some beautiful names! Start trying out names and see what sticks!Smile

Just come back to this thread again.
I really think you should go with Winifred. It is a great name and has really grown on me!

Much, much better than Margot (don't get the love for that name, it horrible.)
You don't have to have a nn. Sometimes nn just emerge, and sometimes they never get one. It is a great name!

Waitingforamate · 02/10/2020 07:11

OP it took me ages to finalise DD name too, you’re definitely not alone!
Might not be helpful but I think Harriet Jennifer sounds lovely and Harriet and Percy go nicely as siblings.

MercyBodle · 02/10/2020 04:29

After being very cool and a bit daring with the choice of Percy (I really like it!) it would be a pity to choose a dull, popular name totally lacking in pzazz like Heidi. And I think it sounds terrible next to Percy (because they're such different styles, one being edgy and classy the other common, everyday and lacking imagination).

While I'm not keen on Winnie, Winifred goes well. So does Dorothy. Erica is a great under-used name and perfect for Percy's sister, however don't choose a name just because of the boy version. It would make her think you really wanted a boy.

Phoebe is really good, and if you're not put off by 2 'P' names it works.
Amber is nice enough, but a bit on the dated side.

BeMorePacific · 02/10/2020 03:20

Your name choices are great! I also love the name Percy.
Try not to worry about everyone else’s opinion, once your lovely baby is named people won’t think about the name a lot. It just becomes part of the baby. Good luck and congratulations x

Winnifred is my favourite 😍

What about Nora /Norah?
Nora Jennifer
Percy and Nora. I think they go well.

SpringFan · 01/10/2020 21:51

Grandad was Percy, Grandma was May Melinda. Percy and May go together in my mind!

missmouse101 · 01/10/2020 21:46

Margot is hideous. OP, her name does not need to 'go' with her brother's name. Please choose Heidi Amber Surname! Lovely!

JanewaysBun · 01/10/2020 21:46

Heidi is lovely (dd was almost this!) Getting more popular.

I really wanted to use Judy (I love Judy garland) but wasn't brave enough.

danascully96 · 01/10/2020 21:43

Actually Clara would be really nice! My niece is named Clara and it’s a sweet, simple name

missmouse101 · 01/10/2020 21:43

Heidi and Amber are just lovely!

NameChange30 · 01/10/2020 21:41

I think Erin is much nicer than Erica, Erica seems too harsh and Erin is softer but still strong.

BoudicasBoudoir · 01/10/2020 21:37

I like the idea of Winifred/Freddie. I knew a female Freddie at university who was very smart.

And also, we went over time on naming our daughter, so don’t worry. The name we chose in the end was perfect and I’m glad we took the time to get it right.

WinWinnieTheWay · 01/10/2020 21:29

Sylvie

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 01/10/2020 21:05

I like Erica

Erin?

YouDidWHATNow · 01/10/2020 20:50

Have you considered Nicola?
Not as popular anymore, but quite a nice name, and Nicola Jennifer sounds fine to me.
I also liked as pp said Harriet or Delia is a really classic name thats barely used anymore.

danascully96 · 01/10/2020 20:20

I like the suggestion of Alice with Percy :) Phoebe is nice as well (you may get stuck in a P theme if you have another child, though).
