Name with surname?

Can you give me some help with names that go well with our surname? Appreciate they will mostly go by their first name but I find our surname so hard to pair well with. Ideally nothing too popular. Surname is Cutting, would be grateful for suggestions for boys and girls 😘 xxx

Polydora, with Polly for short?

Thekitchensinkk · 30/09/2020 14:59

I was unsure about names ending in C/Ck as it rolls into one word. So you end up saying Ja - Cutting. Does that make sense?

DH also suggested Polly. It's a good name but I feel it's a bit cutesy.

Glad to hear he loves Rupert, hopefully you do too. In all my years teaching I've only ever met 1 and he was so blooming polite he made me like the name even more.

Thekitchensinkk · 30/09/2020 13:58

That's really helpful guys. Please keep the suggestions coming, I too prefer a longer name with it. Somehow especially for girls names, it seems to take the edge off the harsh sounding surname.

I also think it suits a name on the more substantial side.

Not something ending with a s sound.

TinySleepThief · 30/09/2020 12:22

I agree it needs to have several syllables. Short 1 syllable names sound odd when paired with it so I'd also try and avoid names which are likely to be shortened.

Names that might work

Elliott
Rupert
Laurence

Hannah
Juliette
Ffion

Sebastian Cutting
Theodore Cutting
Alistair Cutting
Jonathan Cutting

Josephine Cutting
Rosalind Cutting
Miranda Cutting
Annabel Cutting
Penelope Cutting

Personally I would also avoid some nature flower names like Daisy, Violet, Rose.

SBTLove · 30/09/2020 11:58

Well maybe not Ben 🤣

FizzyGreenWater · 30/09/2020 11:55

I was just about to say exactly the opposite!!

A longer name would be better. Definitely not a one-syllable name: it emphasises the surname, and as Cutting is a word, it sounds either odd - like an activity - 'I've been out ben cutting' - or just sounds abrupt.

Whatsyourflava · 30/09/2020 11:53

Laurence

SBTLove · 30/09/2020 11:51

Something short with no y sound;
Thom
Ben
Leon
Evan
Nora
Nuala
Anna
Aoife
