Which do you prefer? Or, 3rd option, BC Marina, NN Marnie (or maybe spelt Marni)?

Please not Marnie! It’s a horrible name!

liani · 30/09/2020 09:54

Marnie. Not a massive fan but Marina is the name of a contraceptive coil (although spelled differently).

Mosasaur · 30/09/2020 09:33

Marina makes me think of the tarty lady from Last of the Summer Wine.

itsjakeandamy · 30/09/2020 09:31

Marnie sounds awful. It makes me think of moaning for some reason.
Marina is not my style but it's better. However it does make me think of the mirena coil.

IslandLulu · 30/09/2020 08:34

Marina definitely

GerundTheBehemoth · 30/09/2020 08:08

Marina is one of my favourite names. Marnie... isn't.

wishing3 · 30/09/2020 04:58

Marnie

jessstan2 · 30/09/2020 04:51

Marina.

Ghosts2020 · 30/09/2020 02:33

I like marnie but only if its a nickname, marina is much better

LovelyBranches · 30/09/2020 00:34

I much prefer Marina. It makes me think of Marina and the Diamonds and she’s pretty cool.

I also love the name Marcella and think it’s a very beautiful name with good nicknames like Marcy or Ella.

MercyBodle · 30/09/2020 00:11

Definitely Marina - lovely name.
I dislike Marie. You can (and she can) decide later if you want Marnie as a nickname.

AntiHop · 29/09/2020 22:56

How about Maria?

Whatsyourflava · 29/09/2020 22:51

Marina is awful. Isn't that where people keep boats and it's also a pasta sauce? Marina Bay Sands that famous hotel too. It just doesn't sound like a name to me.

Marnie on the other hand is an absolutely gorgeous name. Very underused too and love it's meaning and history.

DramaAlpaca · 29/09/2020 22:47

I like both. I'd probably go for Marina, with Marnie as a diminutive.

bigarsebelinda · 29/09/2020 21:38

Honestly none of them.

At a push, Marina.

Mari ("Mareeee") is nice. Could be welsh but I'm not sure.
Or even Mary.?

Mouthfulofquiz · 29/09/2020 21:19

Marina is a gorgeous name.

ToastyCrumpet · 29/09/2020 21:01

Marina is lovely. I’ve two Marinas and they were both great people. Marnie is bleh. Not a real name.

Bingowin · 29/09/2020 20:47

Love Marnie!!

Onceuponatimethen · 29/09/2020 20:45

Love Marina

Marnie has good connotations from me - the book ‘When Marnie was there’ but I don’t really like the sound of the name

Disfordarkchocolate · 29/09/2020 20:35

Marnie for me. Marina makes me burst into song and hark back to childhood TV.

TempsPerdu · 29/09/2020 20:32

Marina is much more elegant and has a slightly exotic, cosmopolitan feel. Good Shakespearean connection too. I know a little Marnie but even though she’s lovely I can’t warm to it - don’t like the strident ‘mar’ sound, makes me think ‘mardy’ and doesn’t feel especially classy.

Peachbubble · 29/09/2020 20:25

Marina, don't like Marnie I'm afraid.

BabCNesbitt · 29/09/2020 19:53

Marina is the name of a crappy old car/a place for boats/a Gerry Anderson mermaid puppet/the village “sexy blonde” in Last of the Summer Wine.

Marnie makes me think of When Marnie Was There. It’s a lovely name.

daisypond · 29/09/2020 19:48

Marina is classy and elegant with an international vibe. Marnie is none of those things.

ladycarlotta · 29/09/2020 18:03

I really like both, but your suggestion of Marina on the BC and Marnie for short is great.
