David: lovely or awful?

I really like David for DS2 right now, and so does DH to my surprise, particularly because it matches perfectly with Samuel (DS1) IMO; the whole story in the bible about him anointing David. So is it lovely and thus we go for it, or is it just my hormones playing up?

Its nice but boring

cactusdog · 27/09/2020 22:22

Lovely and classic

Mrsmophead · 27/09/2020 22:20

Love David. Love Dave. Solid names. I echo the view I've never met one I didn't like.

Heartofglass12345 · 27/09/2020 22:18

I think it's nice. It's a classic name. When people say about the royle family and stuff like that they need to remember that kids won't have seen it!
I like David though not Dave. It's my dads name and my ex's name so I wouldn't use it for that reason lol

Savemyusername · 27/09/2020 22:18

Nope. Too outdated and not due a comeback.

Clearthinking · 27/09/2020 22:17

Love David, just Dave reminds me of the channel which is ok to be fair

TattyMcBab · 27/09/2020 22:17

I like it, would have used it myself but the surname combination was not helpful... (I’m not a Bowie though...!)

MrsJemimaDuck · 27/09/2020 22:14

It’s a very nice name, and I know a few Davids who never go by Dave.

mrwalkensir · 27/09/2020 22:13

good enough for Bowie....

timetest · 27/09/2020 22:11

Lovely. Will never date.

Coffeeandaride · 27/09/2020 22:10

Lovely, it’s DS’s middle name. I have a David friend and he sometimes gets “Dave” and he corrects them.

Eyewhisker · 27/09/2020 21:57

Nice but dated. At my work there are loads of 50 year old Davids. It needs another 30 years before a revival.

Slightlybrwnbanana · 27/09/2020 21:47

I don't teach many David's, but there have been a few and they are never ever called Dave.

chunkyrun · 27/09/2020 21:42

Surely it's to soon for a come back

JustOneMoreStep · 27/09/2020 21:42

I dont think its inevitable that a David would be called Dave. My brother is a David and was always known as such growing up.....he is still David to family and childhood friends but goes by Dave at work. That was his choice though- mid 20s at the time. Our little sister did go through a phase of calling him 'Davey Day' for a while, but it was rather sweet!

Lindy2 · 27/09/2020 21:40

It's a good classic name.

You have the option of David or Davie when he's little but he could choose to use Dave when he's grown up. Dave for a baby or young child doesn't seem quite right.

SquigglePigs · 27/09/2020 21:39

I like it. Suits all ages. It was on put boys shortlist. PPs are right though, will almost certainly be shorted to Dave.

Mollymalone123 · 27/09/2020 21:37

My dad is a David and he has never been called Dave-ever 😂 and he is calm, intelligent and kind

DramaAlpaca · 27/09/2020 21:36

I love it. The youngest one I know is 21. Really lovely name that's due a revival.

icode · 27/09/2020 21:36

David = lovely
Dave = horrible

LikeSilentRaindrops · 27/09/2020 21:35

I love it and have considered it for DC3, but I would need an absolute guarantee that he would never be Dave before I could use it! Am currently planning it as a middle name to Theodore, as it’s special for both me and DH for family reasons.

AriettyHomily · 27/09/2020 21:34

Like David but hate Dave

HowFastIsTooFast · 27/09/2020 21:32

I like it. I've dated a couple of David's and went to school with more and I can't think of a bad one.

daiseeedaiseee · 27/09/2020 21:30

lovely!

Invisablewoman · 27/09/2020 21:28

Love it but I'm biased as it's DS1's name. It's classic. He's definitely a David not a Dave though Grin
