Common as in well used

I would say fairly common

Uncommon now-Welsh name.

PenguinsOnParade · 27/09/2020 21:05

It was more common in the decade or two before I was born but is fairly classic so it was still used quite a bit. I was somehow the only person in my year at school with it though.

11MrsLuther · 27/09/2020 21:04

Not very common for my age (just checked 75 th in my year of birth). The.longer version of the name (mine is the short version) was more popular but again not top 20). I now share my name with arguably the most famous woman in the UK!

steppemum · 27/09/2020 21:04

semi common for my age. Very recognisable well known name though

mrsmummy1111 · 27/09/2020 21:03

@MojoJojo71

Very common for women born in the same decade but rarely used now
Tracey?
JonHammIsMyJamm · 27/09/2020 21:01

Pretty average, neither common nor rare.

1Micem0use · 27/09/2020 20:58

Not common, but long, and lots of similar names share the same diminutive.

NormaSnickers · 27/09/2020 20:58

Fairly common for my age group, it’s a classic Biblical name but you don’t meet many young ones nowadays. Think there were 4 of us in my school year but it would be uncommon now.

Princesspickle777 · 27/09/2020 20:57

Ridiculously common Sad

Boringnamechanging · 27/09/2020 20:54

Uncommon but not unheard of. Became fairly popular 20 years later.

Dreamscomingtrue · 27/09/2020 20:51

Uncommon, very popular in the 50’s and 60’s.

Eloisedublin123 · 27/09/2020 20:49

I was the only one in my country with this name - I think! - as in my user name. I only met another Eloise in my 30s! Now it’s crazy popular!

yellowmaoampinball · 27/09/2020 20:48

Very unusual. Consistently quite a bit less than 20 in England and Wales every year since 1997 according to some search thing on the BBC news website. Apparently none at all registered in 2018.

Pizzamyhart · 27/09/2020 20:21

Uncommon but not unusual.

olderthanyouthink · 27/09/2020 19:41

There are 3 of us ever on the English birth register. As far as I know, all still living.

custardbear · 27/09/2020 18:49

Uncommon in the UK - more common in USA

greenlynx · 27/09/2020 18:20

Very very common in my birth country especially for my generation, I’ve got 3 university friends with the same name. Uncommon in UK.

Mags5Bia · 27/09/2020 18:01

Common for the decade I was born in, less so now.

SerenityNowwwww · 27/09/2020 17:54

Only one of my sisters and I got the ‘weird’ names. The rest of my siblings got off lightly. My sister has never met another one (and I have met only one of my namesakes).

We joke that mum must have been in the heavy drugs in the maternity ward when we were born.

We have both grown up with the reaction “??? Oh that’s... unusual...” and all she ever said was ‘I thought it was a nice name...’. I don’t think dad got a say in the matter.

In fact our siblings have got rather boring and common names.

Hoppinggreen · 27/09/2020 17:46

My name used to be mostly short for something (but with a different spelling) and people used to spell it as the shortened version of that name NEVER how mine was spelt and quite often I was called the full name
It’s only in the last 5 years or so that people bothered to check the spelling because it was always the other way. You do see it now, especially since there’s now a famous singer with my name - spelt right

Bert2e · 27/09/2020 17:43

Of an era, everyone has heard of it but now ranks outside the top 100

SockQueen · 27/09/2020 17:38

Very common in the 80s when I was born (and before that too) but has faded since then and is now almost unheard of in new babies.

ginghamtablecloths · 27/09/2020 17:33

There were three of us in the same class in the early 70s but I've only met one other since and a colleague gave her baby this name. Classic? maybe - a film star and a few mature actresses share it, I wouldn't say it was particularly glamorous and I've never really liked it.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/09/2020 17:27

It was when I was born (70s) not now, though.

reefedsail · 27/09/2020 17:20

There were 7 people in my school French set called the same thing as me, and my best friend has the same name.

I've never been bothered by how common it is (well, was then).
