Common as in well used

I would say fairly common

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Extremely uncommon, often misheard/misspelt or people’s brains automatically replace it with similar-sounding common names. I’ve only met one other person with it, and it was a little girl who spotted my name tag at work. Didn’t know who was more excited, her or I!

As a kid was envious of the others finding their bookmark/keychain in the gift shop. Envy

mostwomencanbetter · 27/09/2020 22:50

Common-ish, more familiar. It's most peoples middle name if they were born in the 80's !!

Usually one other at various places I've worked depending on company size. I've mainly worked in big offices. It just depends on the age you work with.

I don't bump into loads of me though.

BeBraveAndBeKind · 27/09/2020 22:33

Very uncommon. I've only ever met two people with the same name as me in 40+ years. I love it now but people always spell it/pronounce it wrong.

elp30 · 27/09/2020 22:29

It's not common in the UK.
However, there's an infamous person has my name and people all over the world seem to know it.
When I introduce myself to people, they always ask, "Oh, like the woman who...?"
Yeah, she's sort of ruined it for a lot of us.

weegiemum · 27/09/2020 22:16

Common for my age - I was one of 4 in my high school year.

Very 60s/early 70s (I was born in 1970).

Jeremyironseverything · 27/09/2020 21:43

Uncommon. One or two youngsters have now got it, but still rare.

Popcornismandatory · 27/09/2020 21:42

Uncommon

Hated my name as a child/teen but OK with it now I'm an old gimmer

ladybee28 · 27/09/2020 21:41

I've met four in my lifetime.

Definitely not a name that people would say "Oh, that's an unusual name!" but you don't meet many.

DPotter · 27/09/2020 21:39

Mine can be dated to 2-3 years late 50s / early 60s. Nothing before other than a character in a novel by Elizabeth Gaskell. Saw on a thread a few months back, it might be making a comeback - nearly fell off my chair. Had 3 girls of same name in primary (same initials as well) and 5 in secondary. After that not so many - thank God.

Don't like it. Neither does DP as he calls me by my surname, which is now a first name as well. Interestingly when people get my name wrong, I'm frequently called Dawn.......

tobee · 27/09/2020 21:38

Very unusual when I was growing up in 70s and 80s; I only knew of one other, who was named after me (Grin). Less unusual in last 25 years. Often mentioned on mn baby name boards. Usually favourably. 🙃

blackcatgingercat · 27/09/2020 21:32

Very uncommon but seems to be a fairly common surname in USA.

Bouledeneige · 27/09/2020 21:32

Quite common amongst women of an uncertain age. It has connotations of a Scottish housekeeper and is deeply unglamorous. No one names babies with my name anymore.

Notanapplelover · 27/09/2020 21:31

Very uncommon. When I was younger, it made me very uncomfortable, now I can see advantage in not needing to explain who I am over the phone to some old friend- I only need to say my name and they remember me!

Pet8 · 27/09/2020 21:31

Uncommon went through school, university and work without meeting another. Bizarrely, there seems to be a lot of mutual friends with my name on SM of late. They all appear to be younger than me but I don't recall anyone amongst my siblings peer groups.

Quarterback11 · 27/09/2020 21:24

Really common but now it's kinda aging me...no one under 30 is called it :(

mrscatmad31 · 27/09/2020 21:23

Uncommon, it's an old fashioned Welsh name

Hopeandglory · 27/09/2020 21:21

mines was very uncommon with humans but popular with poodle and labrador owners, have heard a couple of under 10s called it recently

Scarby9 · 27/09/2020 21:17

Was common when I was at school - six of us in a yeargroup of 66.
Now - no babies named that in England for three years.
Clearly very much of its time!

trilbydoll · 27/09/2020 21:12

Classic regal name, there was one other in my year at school. DH had a great great aunt with this name and there's a little girl in dd2's Y1 class, it spans generations.

Might become super popular when the Queen dies Wink

JurassicShay · 27/09/2020 21:11

Very uncommon
Can't finds stats for the uk but only 493 baby's born in the US since 1880!

saturdaymorning · 27/09/2020 21:08

Uncommon

Carrotgirl87 · 27/09/2020 21:06

Thread even

Carrotgirl87 · 27/09/2020 21:06

Uncommon. There was once an entire threat dedicated to how much people dislike my name Grin

Dogegg33 · 27/09/2020 21:06

Uncommon

MsKeats · 27/09/2020 21:06

Yes the only one I know and the same with my kids and they all end with the same letters which isn’t a usual ‘letter’ either
