Without saying your first name ,is your name common/uncommon?

It's a really normal name in most European countries but I've only ever met a handful of others. There's a boys' equivalent and that (or the standard abbreviation) seems to be much more common.

It seems very obvious to me what the name is now but maybe not to others!

Just to add having checked top 100 names my name hasn't made it in since the late 90s!

At my primary school there were 3 of us in my class of 25ish (no idea about the two classes in the year).
At my senior school there were 3 of us in the school year of about 90 (not the same ones as from my primary)
Didn't meet anyone at University with the same name - none in my circle of friends (or girlfriends of the boys), none on my course that I knew of but didn't know everyone.
Encountered 1 person socially since then with the same name and 2 at one particular place of work of about 1000 people though again, I didn't know everyone.

it's not my exact year but within my decade and a couple years after I was born my name is very popular - top 3 - which is why it's surprising that I haven't encountered that many past school even amongst women my own age. Then again my circle is very small these days!

Common in the decade it was given, but not now.

Common in the 50s and consequently dates me. If someone on the phone has the same name I know roughly how old she is. I would never name a baby a fashionable name for this reason. My granddaughter was given a name that was popular in the 20s and she was the only one that year on the national list. It was a surprise but we all love it now.

Wellknown, not common, never popular. Cannot put age group on it although rarely used nowadays (if ever). Several celebrities over the years had it!

Classic, but not one of the more common classic names. I’ve just checked and it’s not in the top 100. I do know of someone with my name from every decade since the 50s to now though.

Common name from the 60s, although I was the only one in my year. It's not popular now and I hate it.

Apparently mine is due for a resurgence, it was very popular in the 1920s. I was not born in the 20s.

Biblical name. Super common in the 80's. Not heard any new ones for donkeys years

I decided I didn't want the same for my DC, they each were given classic names that weren't frequently used, but weren't Yooneek either. Until DC3, 5years later her name steamrolled into the top 10. It's been in this thread more than once...

One of the most common names ever a few decades ago. 4 of us with the same name in a class of 15. Pretty much unheard of now though. It is a unisex name, but mainly used for females.

I doubt mine is even Top 500 now, but growing up it was more common than spots during Chickenpox season. There were 4 others with my name in a class of 15 girls.

And you'd had to be known as Emma W (not my name!) until you left school, because almost everyone had the middle name Louise too

Uncommon in this country (nobody I meet has met anyone with my name before) however, it's definitely more common in a certain other country.

@cctvrec my neighbour shortens my name which I bloody hate. My name is commonly shortened in the US but rarely is here, so I'm not sure where she gets it from. My dh and dc thinks it's hilarious and will follow me out of the house just to hear her using it.

I hate my name, it's popularity was at its height about 10 years before I was born. I know a few my age but most are much older, I think it ages me. I always think of this when someone in a name thread says, "popular about 10 years ago but not any more, use it!" It makes me cringe.

Not commonly used but a well known name. There are common versions and shortenings of it but I have only met one other irl that I can think of. Two very famous American Celebrities share my name though.

Despite it being a well known name, it's on my Facebook and written clearly on Christmas and birthday cards etc my neighbour's will not fucking get it right!

Imagine it is Maria. They call me Marie. It's not Marie. It has never been Marie. They know us very well. I have corrected them. My husband says my name all the time. They just... won't say it!

My 8 year old son has caught on and called me a further shortening of my name (let's say, 'Mar') last week in front of them. I said, "What did you just call me? It's MARI-A! MA-REE-AH! And mum to you, young man!"

I realised a little later he was trying to get me to correct him in front of the neighbours. Clever wee lad.

Didn't work though. It's bloody ignorant!

Uncommon in the country I was born/grew up/currently live. Apparently very common in the country the name originated from.

Mine is common, consistently in the top 100 in the past 20 years or so, was pretty close to the top of the list when I was born in the 80s.
