As for Maud, well I'm not too sure. It looks nicer spelled Maude, less harsh.

Really?! I can see that Maud isn’t to everyone’s taste but what is wrong with Mary? It’s a totally classic name. I like it because it’s not common now but everyone will recognise it.

Wow Maud is truly marmite! I think of a little Maud as very determined and serious - I think it’s cool. Mary is more cool and classic. Love them both and can’t decide!

Dd2 watches a show called The InBESTigators and the main character is called Maudie and she’s awesome. Not a name I would ever have thought of until I’d watched this show with DD, so definitely Maud over Mary.

I met a Maud when I was about ten - she was a similar age so would be 40ish now. After asking her name four times and finally working out that she wasn’t called ‘Mud’ I was so impressed - she was kind of a cool kid and it really stuck with me as a cool, unusual name.

However I do think it’s a hard one to pull off.

I like Mary.
