Two questions:

  1. Looking for suggestions of 3 syllable middle names, currently liking Francesca but would like some other options.

  2. Is Iris too much like 'virus' for a 2020 baby...? ☹️

I prefer Iris Amelia/Emilia over Francesca, other similar feeling names you could consider:
Iris Antonia
Iris Julia
Iris Lucia
Iris Claudia
Iris Celia
Iris Helena
Iris Louisa
Iris Lydia

Iris doesnt sound anything like virus in my accent, so I wouldn't make the connection? As for the "old fashioned" thing - I know someone who has Iris as a middle name and was bit embarassed about it when we were young (about 30 years ago!) as it was too "grannyish" then, but she loves it now that there's more kids about with the name. I personally quite like it as it reminds me of both the goddess and the flower.

Love Iris. I’m not keen on frumpy Francesca though - Amelia or Emilia is much better.

I like both your middle name options but prefer Amelia

I really like Iris, it's pretty without being frilly. Not keen on Francesca, that feels a bit 90s to me.

Iris will stand as a name long after the Corona virus. I think it's lovely, not at all frilly, and strong. I think shorter, stronger names for girls is going to be the next trend. We move back in fashions for names so 1930s type names will be on the rise I think. Jean, Jane, Joan etc.

Iris Amelia does sound a bit nicer and softer.

It is an old fashioned name, but it's definitely made a come back! On my list for a mn if we have a girl :)

Reactivating this thread as due date is drawing closer.

Iris is still the front runner and I still like Francesca as a middle name but DH prefers Iris Amelia. I agree it flows better but just not so keen on the name. Any thoughts?

Also, a bit nervous that people think Iris is a granny name. I think it depends who you know, and I only know one Iris a few years younger than me, and the one in The Holiday (although to be fair that was about 15 years ago so I guess she's aged a bit...). I think of Mabel, Ruby, Elsie etc as much more granny names, but is Iris in there too?

Iris is nice, so is Francesca. I also think of the Goo Goo Dolls song before I think virus/ISIS. Matilda, Amelie, Leonie and Emily all sound nice as middle names.

Francesca is nice as a middle name but I'd never use it as a first name because I hate the shortenings especially Franny which sounds... unfortunate.

I would never have thought of virus. I know four girls named Iris, but all of different ages so none in the same class. It's a pretty name.

No suggestions, but I wouldn't make the link to virus.

It's not the type of name that I would choose personally, but actually, I think it's really pretty.
