Give it to me straight

So we have had a long hard road to become pregnant and I would love a name which in some way reflects how much joy we feel to have this baby. I've been looking at names which mean happiness, light, love, hope etc.

One name I've come across for a girl and I LOVE is Bliss. I once knew someone who was called Bliss and I thought it was such a cool name, she really suited it.

But I don't know if I'm brave enough! So, Mumsnet, give it to me straight. Is it lovely or awful?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I don't like it, sorry
How much do you like it though, and how much do you care what other people think? If you live it, that's what important.

I think Loveday is quite sweet though, along the lines you set out.

As a middle name or nickname, I think it's lovely but I'm less keen on it as a first name, not least because it's also the name of the charity supporting premature and very sick babies.

How about Felicity (happiness), Miriam (wished for child), Lucy (light) or even Joy?

I like very conventional names usually but I actually really like it!

If it’s a little too out there for you, could you use it as a middle name?

Krazynights34 · 17/09/2020 22:07

Hi I’m glad you have your baby!!
Bliss is ok but... do you know it’s also the name of a charity for premature and sick babies?
A lot of women might infer a meaning you hadn’t intended...
There are names like Joy, Grace, Hope, Zoe, Delilah, Noemi, Olina, Tirzah..

Or do another spelling Blisse for instance.

Or maybe it’s just me

@Thisismytimetoshine fair point!

Needing to be brave alone should tell you it's a bad idea 🤔

Thanks for your comments so far.

All of our other options are a lot less "out there" so that's another reason why I'm having a real wobble over this... I love it but it's very much out of comfort zone.

I’m so sorry it’s dreadful.

Thisismytimetoshine · 17/09/2020 22:04

No. It's dreadful.

AliciaMayEmory · 17/09/2020 22:03

I work with a lady called Bliss and think it’s lovely.

cloudjumper · 17/09/2020 22:03

Awful.

Screenburn · 17/09/2020 22:02

Too much scope for teasing, I think OP. Maybe felicity (nn Fliss) if you like the sound?

Dollywilde · 17/09/2020 22:01

I knew one at school so I don’t think it would strike me as too unusual if I were to meet another.... not sure how unusual I’d find it I was hearing it for the first time. I don’t love it but I don’t hate it, I’d say go for it if you fancy!

LolaSmiles · 17/09/2020 22:01

I dislike it as a name.
Could Bliss nor be a nickname you use?
