Give it to me straight

So we have had a long hard road to become pregnant and I would love a name which in some way reflects how much joy we feel to have this baby. I've been looking at names which mean happiness, light, love, hope etc.

One name I've come across for a girl and I LOVE is Bliss. I once knew someone who was called Bliss and I thought it was such a cool name, she really suited it.

But I don't know if I'm brave enough! So, Mumsnet, give it to me straight. Is it lovely or awful?

Bliss is a beautiful name

formerbabe · 23/09/2020 20:51

How about
Faith
Hope
Joy

thegreylady · 23/09/2020 20:44

Would you consider Gaia? It means the Earth so in a sense it means she is the world to you.

MondeoFan · 23/09/2020 20:33

I like it. I know someone who has twins they are Bliss & Blossom they are in their late teens now
Known as Bliss & Bloss

Mommabear20 · 23/09/2020 19:52

Not keep on Bliss as a name. Poor kid will get bullied 😞
What about Freya? She was the Norse god of fertility 😁

Toilenstripes · 23/09/2020 19:38

Or, Beatrice means “she who makes happy”

Toilenstripes · 23/09/2020 19:37

Belinda with Bliss as a nickname?

SummerHouse · 23/09/2020 19:35

Do you like Faith? Maybe reflects your journey / experience in a different (less 'out there') way.

DoTheMaccaroni · 23/09/2020 19:30

@Thisismytimetoshine

But I don't know if I'm brave enough! Needing to be brave alone should tell you it's a bad idea 🤔
I disagree with this. I think the name we chose could be classed as brave and I was nervous about responses, but it’s been loved so far. We always get compliments on her name Smile

I say go for it OP. Kids will always find ways to tease if they wanna tease.

sufferinsuccertash · 23/09/2020 19:06

I did also think of the charity.

I like Felicity!

abiirthdaycake · 21/09/2020 18:32

What about Beatrice with Bliss as a nickname?

FizzyGreenWater · 21/09/2020 17:56

Oh no my first thought was the premature baby charity.

Blythe is lovely

anorangeaday · 20/09/2020 22:08

I knew a Bliss at school so I wouldn’t say it’s too unusual

joystir59 · 20/09/2020 22:07

Bliss sounds porn star-ish. Just awful.

jessstan2 · 20/09/2020 21:47

Bess is a diminutive of Elizabeth.

Thisismytimetoshine · 20/09/2020 21:45

Bess is awful as well.

Porridgeoat · 20/09/2020 21:45

Go for Bess and use Bliss as a nickname

Tinacollada · 20/09/2020 13:44

Will get called Blister

jessstan2 · 20/09/2020 13:11

@jemimafuddleduck

Thanks all. I've listened to you and although I do love it, it's maybe not the one.

I do quite like Felicity / Fliss as some have suggested.

And thank you for your congratulations!

Congratulations from me too if I haven't said it before. Felicity is the best!
changerr · 19/09/2020 21:08

Hate it, but not because it's 'out there'.

emilybrontescorsett · 19/09/2020 00:05

I know a Bliss, she is an adult and I've always thought it was a bit 'out there' if I'm honest.

I think Bliss is too much if I'm honest. It sounds a bit like a condom brand or something.
I think Blythe would be a really good alternative.

autumnkate · 18/09/2020 17:39

I like it! I think you definitely use it, maybe for a middle if you’re not sure x

SilkandSteel1 · 18/09/2020 17:19

Back in the day. there was a character called Bliss in either Dynasty or the Colbys, so was a trend for a bit along with Krystle, Fallon etc
