We absolutely love Barnaby and Percy for our son due in December. We are leaning towards Barnaby but does anyone have any other similar name suggestions we could consider?

TIA

I know you're not asking for opinions but I love love love both names. Both on my list.

If not how about:
Laurence
Tristan

Is it very important to you to sign post you’re middle class? Both of those names smack of trying very hard to present a certain image.

Percy - autocorrects to pervy which is off putting in itself

Barnaby - it’s just makes me imagine a fat child. Well, not a child really, a bear. Barnaby is a fat bear from a children’s storybook.

Toilenstripes · 18/09/2020 00:14

Peregrine of course.

BlueJag · 18/09/2020 00:13

@AllPlayedOut my thoughts precisely.

BlueJag · 18/09/2020 00:11

Cecil can be a favourite, Reginald or Cyril. All as bad as Percy (Percy Pigs) terrible.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 18/09/2020 00:06

Percy seems to be on the cusp of making a come back, although it’s beyond me why.

Out of the two, I’d pick Barnaby

Hmmm I have to agree they sound like teddy bear / children's book characters from the 1930s names.

roarfeckingroarr · 17/09/2020 22:38

I love Percy and have asked this question in here before OP for my baby due in a couple of weeks. Safe to say Percy provokes strong opinions!

cactusdog · 17/09/2020 22:30

I love Barnaby. Great name and Barney is such a cute nn

Justnormajean · 17/09/2020 22:29

Percy - what do you like about it? It makes me think of pissy.
Barnaby - it’s ok, a robust name even if the short version it is a purple Dinosaur in my imagination

SLC352 · 17/09/2020 22:27

My partner and I love the name Percy BUT would never use it-it's a bit too out there for us and we were worried about bullying/the child not liking it! x I know you didn't ask for opinions but it's natural for people to share their reactions x

AllPlayedOut · 17/09/2020 22:26

You're going to get them like it or not and Percy is dreadful.

Barnaby

Inastatus · 17/09/2020 21:55

No to Percy. Barnaby is ok.

Luckingfovely · 17/09/2020 21:52

Confused the two names there Grin both were on our list. Some great suggestions above, Woody, Rocky, Monty, (or the long forms thereof) also in the same vein

Burplecutter · 17/09/2020 21:51

Percy is a nickname for a penis.

Luckingfovely · 17/09/2020 21:50

I think both are fab, prefer Barney!

pimble · 17/09/2020 21:49

Percy is slang for penis
