We absolutely love Barnaby and Percy for our son due in December. We are leaning towards Barnaby but does anyone have any other similar name suggestions we could consider?

TIA

Barnaby is the lesser of two evils. How about Montgomery/Monty?

PeaceAndHarmoneeee · 20/09/2020 22:33

Jolyon
Corin
Roscoe
Lyle
Sebastian
Frederick
Edmund

Please not Percy!

micc · 20/09/2020 22:22

I think I'm leaning towards Barnaby :) I think its sweet but it will suit an adult too :)

Kanaloa · 20/09/2020 18:42

I think Barnaby is nicer than Percy and it gives the option of the nickname Barney. If you already have a Humphrey then both Percy and Barnaby sound ok.

Sawyersfishbiscuits · 20/09/2020 18:15

Monty
Jonty
Felix
Barty (Bartholomew)

swahb · 20/09/2020 17:43

@SaffyWall we have a Humphrey already!

I like Percy.

Barnaby the Bear theme tune puts me off Barnaby.

BabyLlamaZen · 20/09/2020 09:53

or Batholemew

BabyLlamaZen · 20/09/2020 09:52

Theodore/Teddy springs to mind
William/Willum

Twisique · 20/09/2020 08:46

Hector
Laurence
Hugo
Timothy
Cedric
Harold

I love many many boys names and I really wouldn’t judge many names as I’ve been a teacher for a long while and I’ve taught most names and you come to love the child whatever they are called. But... I draw the line at Percy. It is a ridiculous name. I do know one. He’s a fairly ridiculous child. You have to be to live up to the name. He does get mocked for it also and his peers are only tiny.
It’s an unfair name to burden a boy with in my humble opinion.

SemperIdem · 20/09/2020 07:35

@zigaziga fair point. I assume people who have children with the given name Teddy (or Bear) are fairly stupid though. Rises to extremely stupid if the baby name Teddy is in fact, female.

Whilst Barnaby reminds me of a teddy bear, I’d assume the parents were relatively intelligent, in the first instance.

WiserOlder · 19/09/2020 10:27

I like Barney or Barnaby if you're really eccentric and have an antiques shop, but Percy is just ridiculous
How does anybody ''like'' the name Percy? It's so silly sounding.

BabyDust13 · 19/09/2020 10:25

I love Barnaby but my OH is not a fan 😢😢😢

Equally I don't think Percy is terrible

Congratulations

morefun · 18/09/2020 14:00

Aw, I like Barnaby. I think Samuel would go well with it.

OhMsBeliever · 18/09/2020 11:38

Barnaby is the best name, choose that!

FluffyEggsontoast · 18/09/2020 11:32

Love both Barnaby and Percy and think you should use one of those so don't want to suggest any more names really as they're great.

SaffyWall · 18/09/2020 11:22

Love Barnaby!

Some other ideas...
Basil
Leonard (Lenny)
Digby
Humphrey
Gregory
Sylvester

Saisong · 18/09/2020 11:20

I don't like Percy, it feels wet and insipid.

Barnaby is much better - I know one who is nicknames Barnes.

How about Basil, Thaddeus (Teddy) or Sidney

zigaziga · 18/09/2020 11:16

I love both!

Barnaby I know of one recently actually whereas Percy I think you’d have to be braver to use .. but I do love it.

(And for the Teddy Bear comment ... not sure that’s fair since there are lots of poor babies actually carrying the name “Teddy” these days)

Ellmau · 18/09/2020 11:11

Barnaby is very nice.

Digby
Digory
Barnabas
Percival
Peregrine (Perry for short)
Jasper
Harley
Henry

BeMorePacific · 18/09/2020 11:09

I love both, especially Barnaby. My OH can’t be swayed on it though 😬

Obviouspretzel · 18/09/2020 10:21

Both are Ok, similar names you could consider are:

Pongo
Hugo
Bernard
Peter
Barrington
Julian
Peterkin

LittleTiger007 · 18/09/2020 07:56

Barnaby is lovely, also Barney for short.
